27th September 2007 Our late arrival back to Nerja (or early morning) took it’s toll on us and we had a very late start to the day. We had planned to visit some caves in the area but that got shelved because we cold not get ourselves up and running.
Instead we spent the day lazing by the pool, drinking more beers and relaxing. Lorenza and I took another spin through the town looking in a few shops. We came across one which sold some lovely Flamenco dresses, very expensive but absolutely beautiful fabric and design. Even though they realised we had no intention of spending 1500 euro on a dress the ladies in the shop were only too happy to show us the variety of different designs they sold. They were spectacular dresses, but back in Australia there would be very limited opportunities to dress Flamenco style so the ladies happily let us take some photos.
We relaxed at a café near the cathedral and watched the passing parade of sun burnt tourists. A guitarist was busking nearby and we watched a girl in a window of the building opposite dance and sway to the tune he
was playing. Sunshine, music, a passing parade, a cool white wine, and no deadlines or stress - life sure is tough.
28th September 2007 - Nerja to Rome Our last day in Spain, we drove to Malaga airport. The views of the ocean along the highway were spectacular. We were not sure how long it would take to return the hire car, check in with Alitalia, etc. so we went in the direction of the airport rather than driving into Malaga itself.
Not far form the airport we noticed the San Miguel brewery, with some signs about tours. So we decided to check it out. The security guard at the gate had no idea what us English speaking folks were blabbering about so he opened the boom gate and directed us to the administration office. There we found a very friendly, young, women who explained that all tours had to be booked in advance. She proceeded to tell us about a friend of hers who was living in Townsville and loved Australia. She gave us some San Miguel pens and wished us a good trip.
Finding the rental car return area was interesting, there was lots
of construction work going on at the airport and the signs were terrible. We did a few laps of the airport and carpark, eventually finding our way to the depths of the carpark to return the car. Our Alitalia flight to Rome was delayed and it took forever to check our bags in and get boarding passes. There seemed to be a lot of problems with their computer system and we were getting a bit worried when a lot of people in front of us were getting turned away by the check in girls. No such problems for us, but the flight had apparently been hugely over booked. We kissed our luggage goodbye and hoped it found its way to Rome.
