Our personal tour guides Stephen and Christine who live in nearby Coin took us on a 4 day tour which included Sevilla and Cadiz. Sevilla has many beautiful Plazas, outdoor seating areas. and seemed a little less hectic than Madrid. In some ways I would compare it to Melbourne, with Sydney as Madrid. We worked up an appetite after all that sightseeing. There are literally hundreds of small tapas bars and bodegas to tempt you ....all with outdoor seating.

At the height of the Moorish occupation Cordoba rivalled Cairo and Baghdad as the major city of the Muslim world. The Caliph (self appointed spiritual, economic and military leader) with absolute authority, had extensive baths built beside his residence..no common folk shared the tub with him. Trump would love to have been a Caliph.

As wealth and power grew in the Cordoba Caliphate this very flashy city was built, strictly to impress visiting ambassadors and kings. It only survived 80 years before being sacked and looted during the civil war that saw the downfall of the rule of the Moors.

A small museum housed some pretty grisly torture tools, each providing a graphic description of what was inflicted.

We really enjoyed Cordoba with its charming cobbled streets, fascinating history, the Mezquita and the wonderful local food and wine.

Al Andaluz
Great blog - in which you have really done justice to the five major cities of Al Andaluz the moorish name for modern Andalucia. All five cities Malaga, Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada and Cadiz have this mix of ancient moorish, ancient spanish and then a modern european overlay.
