Well what'dya know old Korn dog is gonna let me write a new blog.. here's hoping it doesn't get lost in another server failure. Bugger about that. So after hitching over the Pirennesnes and doing a little sunbathing in Barcelona we caught an overnight train to Seville where we bought some bikes and began to make good on our planned cycle adventure. Finding bikes in Seville turned out to be a little less straight forward than we had hoped mind. First out hostel room flooded and started raining water down onto the people in the street'-Who didn't mind I'd say as Seville was experiencing a heat wave at the time with temps approaching 40 Celsius even in the shade. With this heat of course Kees decides we should go for a run. It was our ... read more

Of course Gene would insist that we catch the first ferry out at the crack ass of dawn. To top that, Nervous Nancy felt the need to set the alarm clock for 5:00 a.m., two hours prior to the departure of the ferry for Spain. Good thing my husband is so punctual - we arrived at the port promptly at 6:00 a.m. to find the ticket office closed. The look on my face said it all. Gene, ignoring the fact that we didn’t have so much as a place to sit, suggested “we” grab some coffee (I don’t drink coffee) while we wait for the office to open. Gene began to grow fidgety in his rickety folding chair as the clock ticked past 6:30 a.m. and nobody had opened the doors to the ticket office. More ... read more

28-29 May I have been increasingly fond of telling people that the longer I travel the less and less I plan and prepare, preferring instead for things to just happen as they will. Well, this time that philosophy came full circle and almost caused some bothersome trouble. I took the ferry back to Algeciras, Spain and arrived at passport control at about 11:00 that night. I was expecting possibly some half-hearted questions about whether I was carrying hashish, but I wasn't expecting the officer to tell me that I couldn't re-enter Spain! I told him that I had only been in Spain for three months and was now coming back for the second period of three months that I could spend in Spain and the European Union. The officer told me that I was correct - ... read more

From Berlin I headed straight to southern Spain. Flying through Malaga, I arrived in Algeciras three days before the wedding of my step brother Peter Gaffney. We stayed in a tremendous bed and breakfast that we had exclusive use of for the first week. Just outside Algeciras in Pelayo, it was a short drive to Tarifa or Algeciras. The wedding was very intimate, held at a small church in town called Iglesia de Santisimo Corpus Christi. The dinner and reception were fantastic and a surprising number of guests were able to stay up until 6am dancing, smoking and of course drinking tinto de veranos (red wine with seltzer and lemon), valentines (whiskey with orange fanta), and cervezas (cruzcampo). After the wedding we spent another week just lounging, enjoying wonderful food, beaches, and sun. A stop at ... read more

After a bus ride from Cordoba, I arrived in Algeciras to find what I had expected but not what I had hoped for. It is a port town with nothing much else to see or do. As a result, my 2 day stay consisted of a day trip to Gibraltar and some walking, emailing and telephoning in Algeciras. Gibraltar was strange. An eclectic mix of UK and Spain. The rock was large, the gondala expensive, the barbary apes way too tame seeing as I had to dislodge one off my backpack! but I did enjoy walking the length of the place and seeing the lighthouse and mosque at the eastern end.... read more

I will make this journal my viaje journal while I am in Granada. On the first weekend of Oct. 7-9 ISA had a planned trip to Valencia, a coastal town northwest of Granada. It was a very rich and pretty city. The beaches were nice and the water was freezing. It happened to be their patron saint day on Saturday so Saturday night they had a huge fireworks display, it was a lot of fun. On the weekend of Oct. 14-16 Robert and I took a train to Algeciras where we got a hostal for the night. There we met an old retired national police officer. He was so excited that we were americans becuase his tio era de Texas. So, he took us first to a tapas bar for cena where he knew everyone and ... read more

Abends bin ich ... read more

Zusammen mehrere Bars, Clubs und ... read more
