The other night after I posted we met up with Herbert at a Jazz club and i got some dinner, we watched live jazz until around1030 or so and then headed off to a dance club which was a good time. They played some dance songs I remember form back in the day..."Let the sunshine" Neil if youre reading these you'll remember that one. Even the dance club was very similar to any other club ive been to, here in europe or back in the states. Id say on the whole, people dont really vary much even across cultures as different as New Yorkers and Slovakians(Slovaks?) from the tiny town of Plestany. The place started emptying out around 3am so we went back to the hotel and slept until around 12 and got lunch and met up with Herbert who dropped us off in Bratislava yesterday on his way back to Munich. Slovakia is completely different than i was expecting, I thought Bratislava was gonna be this run down city and cheap as hell...not so much. The worst thing about Bratislava is this incredibly crappy hotel that we're staying in, its terrible and ironically its the most expensive accomodation ive booked this trip and its the worst, and this is freakin Slovakia... $30 should get me more than this place. Austin and I were laughing our asses off for 20 mins just because its so crappy

Anyways the city itself is actually really really nice and just like any other city ive been to in western europe. The old city center has cobblestone streets and outdoor cafes all over. The ice cream is dirt cheap, 3 scoops for $0.60 but other than that its not much cheaper.

Today we're probably gonna visit the old castle in the city center, look up train times to vienna, and go check out a couple stores we walked past yesterday but were closed and that should do it for Bratislava. The rest of my itinerary is gonna be Vienna, Prague, Berlin, and wrap it up in A'dam where I got my reservation for the Flying Pig Downtown...

On a side note, PVD is spinning in Vienna when i'll be there as will Armin Van Buuren in Amsterdam on some boat docked in the harbor so i want to at least make it to Armin and probably even PVD on the 25th

Hi Matt
Just wanted to say hi and hope all is still going well. Sounds like you had a good time in Slovakia and Herbert sounds like a really nice guy that was able to take the time to show you around and to spend some time with. Dad said you called from Prague on Friday and that Austin would only be with you for a few more days and then he had to go back to Spain. It sounds like you got along well with him and it was great that you had someone to share these experiences with. As far as here everything is fine. We had a really good time at the engagement party yesterday. We had the chance to meet some more of Carolyn's family and they were all very nice. Chris , Winnie and Brendan came back here after along with Grandma and spent a few hours while Jason and Carolyn went to their apartment to show her Dad and step-mom and her sister Jen and her family their new apartment. We saw it last Tuesday. They did a great job setting it up. They painted and Jason even laid down some carpet. Marissa worked today but it was very slow becaus of Memorial Day weekend. Everyone has Monday off which is always nice. We all look forward to your next journal. Stay well. MIss and love you Mom. - mom
