Romanian is simple, just add ul and you are home

We might as well admit it right away, the contents of this blog entry is silly and we hope we won't offend anybody. There is no nudity, no profanity and to the best of our knowledge it contains no foul language so it's not right out offensive. But you might find it silly so if you are the kind of person who take offence when grown people are being silly you might not want to spend more time reading this blog entry. That was the end of the disclaimer. If you go on reading from here and later on decide that this entry is nothing but a load of garbage, don't hold it against us, because you have been warned.

We find that the Romanian language has a cute detail. They often end their words with "-ul". To us this looks a bit funny. Maybe it is only we who thinks it funny and that all of you think there is nothing strange at all about ending a word with "-ul". At least if you are Romanian you are guaranteed to find nothing amusing at

all in this. We think it looks so funny that we have decided to put up a blog entry with only photos of words that end with "-ul".

What makes these words even more funny to us is that the Romanian words often are very similar to their English counterparts. For instance

English: theatre Romainian: teatrul

English: salon Romanian: salonul

English: museum Romanian: muzeul

So it seems like if you wish to say something in Romanian you can just pick the English word and add "-ul" to it and you have a pretty good chance of actually getting it right.

When we were in Romania we didn't know what the "-ul" ending stands for. We tried Google Translate and got the same answer no matter if we wrote a word with or without the "-ul" ending. Later we asked Ake's colleague, who speaks Romanian, and she told us that "-ul" has the same meaning in Romanian as "the" has in English. So there it is. It is nothing exciting at all. We actually guessed that "-ul" was the Romanian way of indicating definite article.

you thought this blog entry was stupid, please do not jump to the conclusion that we are stupid. We know we are being silly here but we actually think this blog entry is a little bit fun. If you disliked it it means that our kind of humour in this case did not appeal to you. We applologize for that and hopefully you find some of our other blog entries more to your liking. Most of them are more mature than this.
