On the road, day two.On the road, day two.On the road, day two.

This a one of the lesser roads. We were looking for a place to eat near Almodovar. Note the width of the road; it is stripped for the little three wheel trucks or carts. Our small sedan covers mos of the road. We had to have the right side wheels in the dirt to pass the oncoming car - they did also!
On the road, north, after a thunderous drenching in Sagres. Headed to Evora, an ancient walled city, to the east of Lisbon. We took a lunch break in the town of Almodovar, where we were, I certain, the first Americans they had seen in a long time. In a local bar we had a great meal of fish and beef with beers. The locals cleared a space for us and only stared for the first half hour.

Arriving at Evora at approximately quitting time, we plunged into the traffice swirl around the walled city and around and around the circulos, in an effort to make our way up the hill to the Posada Loi's. Herv's infallible sense of direction finally got us there, with only one false turn up a one-way street. The natives were most polite in their suggestion that we turn around and go another way.

The pousada was once a convent (for very short nuns, as measured by the height of some of the doorways. And the adjoining chapel is the repository of the bones of some very famous Portuguese.

We had a pleasant evening stroll around the hill to catch a glimpse of the

sun and ate a wonderful meal at the pousada.

One hint...the "starters" in Portugal, breads, olives, cheeses and meats, are served whether you order them or not. If you eat some, you pay for all. They are reasonable, however and the soft cheese "pot" is pungent and tasty.
