Saturday September 20: Arrived in Porto at 8am, only to find out that Portugal is in a different time zone an hour ahead of Spain! At 7am on Saturday, nothing was open, so we found a nice park to sit in and eat the sandwiches that our host families had prepared for us. Birds! Every vendor here was selling birds, cages, and seeds. It seemed pretty popular. I hope everyone likes their souvenirs from Porto....

I didn't understand much, but it was interesting anyway. As you can see, its huge - but there were probably only about 50 (or less) people there for the 10am mass.

I climbed the 225 steps of the Tower of dos Clerigos to get a better view of the city. The bells up there played "Ave Maria"

I don't know why, but there were four duplicates of this statue in the same park.

Here I am at the entrance to the Jardim de Palacio Cristal. The cristal palace wasn't that impressive (behind me). At one time there was a World Expo here, but its been turned into a sports arena.

in the gardens surrounding the crystal palace. The Gardens were extensive, I must have spent 2 hours there.

After the walk around the gardens, we decided to take the trolley back up the hill to the city. Since we didn't know where to get off, we missed our stop and ended up riding it back down the hill again - so we rode it twice.
