Founded by the Lello brothers: The brothers hired engineer Francisco Xavier Esteves (1864-1944) to construct the new bookstore on Rua das Carmelitas.[3] In 1906, the Livraria Lello was inaugurated. By 1919, the bookstore was simply designated as the Lello & Irmão, Lda.
