This appeared to be a spirit house but this was the first one we saw with a cross on top instead of the usual crown seen on others.

This church located in Praia da Vitoria was first built in 1521. Most churches we find here are quite colorful like this one.

Thought this was an interesting sign to see as we were getting onto a major highway on Terceira.

Augustina (on the left) and a neighbor renovated this traditional village water tap and added something special for the festival - draft beer flows from this tap this day!

Many times an umbrella is used to get a reaction from the bull to start chasing as everyone is there to see the action.

Everyone except the runners were safely behind fences, on roofs or balconies to watch the action.

We had front row seats as Augustina had set up benches for us to get up behind the fence to see what was happening. If you haven’t guessed Sagres is one of the local beers.

This is only part of the feast we were invited to join in with. There was lots more food including a great fish soup and lovely desserts. We enjoyed trying many new foods – everything was delicious!

The bull run was right in front of El Bolo’s brother’s (Augustina) house so we had ring side seats. It rained quite a bit so the road was slippery for both the bull and the people.

We ran into Jose at the Folklore Festival a few days earlier and saw him again at the bull run –we are easily recognizable in a crowd as he spotted us first!

After the bull run was finished the music started which was very enjoyable. Tiago played the guitar and Jose Luis and Rogerio sang beautifully.

Another brother of El Bolo, Duval makes cheese and we had a chance to sample this great product. We have been enjoying cheese produced on the many islands – each is unique. Bob also thought the T-shirt was great - 100% toro!

Kind, generous and outgoing is the way to describe the people we met on Terceira. What started out as taking a photo of a Espirito Santo Empire (House) a result of El Bolo’s outgoing and welcoming manner turned into meeting these wonderful people and many more.

The building of this church started in 1570 in Angra and was done in the typical Renaissance style. Against tradition the altar faces north instead of Jerusalem. The silversmith work was done by local artisans from the island of Terceira.

The Espirito Santo Empires on Terceira are very colorful and range from the very old to some that were built in recent years. They exist in all the villages and neighborhoods of the cities.
