Today began with a morning sightseeing tour of Wrocław with a local guide. The group boarded our motorcoach over on Nowy Świat, along the Odra River. (Coaches are not allowed along Kiełbaśnicza where the hotel was located. I liked that name--Kielbasa Street!) The coach drove us over to the Exhibition Grounds. Ratusza (Rathaus) - Old Town Hall. Wrocław Rynek. "On the S,E. side rises the Gothic Rathaus, a brick edifice with details in sandstone and architecturally the finest secular building of the later middle ages in E. Prussia. It dates substantially from the end of the 15th cent., and was judiciously restored in 1884-91. At the E. end is a huge and elaborate gable, with a fine oriel to the left of it. The S. facade is adorned with two narrow friezes of humorous figures and twelve modern statues. To the left of the entrance to the Schweidnitzer Keller is the small Bdrenbrunnen, by Geyger (1904). On the W. side is a tower with a Renaissance spire of 1565".--Baedeker 1910. DSC_0979
