Charlottes Cafe For Breakfast
The Charlotte Breakfast consisted of bread, croissants, berry jam, and something I thought was lemon butter but was really spreadable white chocolate; even better. Hi, well it’s 11.02, the night is young, so I’m taking a break from the wedding to tap out a few thoughts.
1: How much stress is involved in preparing for a wedding.
2 Does it get worse as the day nears.
3: Why does it take people so long to leave, to go somewhere, after you ask, Are we ready to go? , and the reply is, Yes.
4: Is it possible to have a bad time at a Polish Wedding.
These have no question marks because, basically, they are comments.
This morning I had an early coffee at the bar downstairs, before chewing and crunching my way through croissants and crispy bread lathered with berry jam and spreadable white chocolate; but not on the same bit of bread. Pretty decadent but an apt start to a long indulgent day.
Tim , Sue and I were ferried to the Castle the wedding was held in by Andzej, and no one will convince me that the car has been made that can overcome the bumps and potholes on Polish roads. We were in a new mercedes and if you felt bumps in a smooth
Palac Krobielowice
The view from the balcony. car like that, my old falcon wouldn’t stand a chance.
We picked up the flowers on the way and arrived safely, and were the first guests there.
We dressed early and, as if to test my stress tolerance, I opened my suit bag to find the trousers missing. Panic set in. I didn’t care if I had to wear my other pants, but if it was my fault, The Newly To Be Weds would have not have forgiven me. Luckily, Tim’s suitbag still had his pants inside and he had suit pants on. I’ll leave you to work out what went wrong.
Eventually the bus carrying everyone else arrived, people changed for the wedding, and we headed to the church. It was held in a beautiful 14th Century Church in a nearby village and it was a very relaxed warm ceremony- in Polish. The priest was very welcoming, thanked everyone in both English and Polish, and told some very funny, lighthearted jokes- in Polish.
After the ceremony, four highjackers hide, concealed against the church. Naturally Marek, a relative of Natalia’s , was the ring leader and waited with three others armed with these long cardboard tubes
that I thought you shook confetti from. Wrong, these things some how explode, propelling glitter and confetti high above the couple, creating an amazing cloud of sparkles for them to pass through. Churches in Australia now discourage or ban confetti because of the mess created, spoilsports.
I’m not going to elaborate too much about the wedding. There was more food and drinks than could be consumed, as running out is a party stopper and that was never happening . There were about 4 food services, the last one starting at 1.30am tomorrow, and drinking, chatting and dancing filled in the gaps.
It was great to meet new people, catch up with old acquaintances, such as Mete and Ed, and I sit and think of important guests who couldn’t make it. That’s a downer for me but on the upside we might go home to a new grandson. How Good is that?
The Poles love a party game and skepticism soon turned to joy as they were just a bit of fun. Sometimes our comfort zone needs to be trampled on to get the best out of a situation.
This brings me to the Nutbush song. Now
The Music
The guy who did the music was a little more modern. He was good, played all the old regulars, and kept the show going. I’m not sure what style of cheese that dance is but it’s very cheesy, but everyone joined in and it was like a bootscootin’ dance from the ‘80s. Sad but true.
I’m heading back now. No one seems to be slowing down, but tomorrow could catch a few people out. There’s breakfast, an opportunity for a bit of golf or archery, and an informal garden party, before we head back to Wroclaw to resume our lives.
I now have two great sons, two delightful daughters in law, two grandchildren soon, and can still afford a trip way occasionally; can’t be happier than that..
I’ll check in tomorrow from Wroclaw. There’s a few pics to show the wedding. The censors worked overtime on this. There will be no more said.
