The trumpeter sounds out from high above as we exit the Cloth Market into Rynek Glowny, the town square of Krakow, Poland. He plays his anthem as he does each hour of the day. It is loud and clear and filled with melancholy. He stops his tune abruptly part way through a note. It pays homage to the ancient trumpeter who, as the legend goes, was shot while warning the town that Tatar armies had gath... Read Full Entry

Reflections of Krakow

A Perfect Place in Any Season!
I so agree that Krakow is fabulous! I spent a couple of snowy weeks there over Christmas and New Year's when a colorful Christmas market drew bundled-up crowds to the huge square. It sounds as if the Polish people celebrate all the seasons in this incredibly beautiful and well-preserved medieval city. Your evocative words, lovely adventures and brilliant photos transported me back to this magical town. Pierogis forever!

Pierogis...
I had no idea how many types of Pierogis there were until we got here. Hard to pick a favorite. They may have replaced tortellini and ravioli in our diet. Yum. ;)Thanks for commenting, Tara!

One of the nicest places we have visited in our journey so far
Wow, that is some statement coming from you. I like the looks of Wawel Castle. Our niece is married to a wonderful man from Poland and we are eager to go visit. Thanks for sharing your impressions and photos.

One of the nicest...
We had a very nice apartment with a beautiful view of the castle. The prices were excellent and we felt like we could relax about budgets for a change. It is a physically attractive place also (think Prague or Budapest). We highly recommend! Thanks for reading!

Moonlit Night at the Castle

Poland - not to be missed
You wrote "I don’t think Poland is high on the list of most travelers’ itineraries, but it should be." We say exactly the same thing to people whenever we have the chance. Poland is sadly underrated as a travel destination. It is cheap, the food is good, travel is easy and safe and there is heaps to see and to do. /Ake

Moonlit Night at the Castle

Poland...
I'm surprised I didn't see more backpackers! I would think with the prices of Italy-France-England that lots of people would be touring here. We are in Ukraine now, which is harder to travel in but VERY inexpensive. Thanks for writing!

I'm finally catching up on my blog reading and was excited to get to yours, first for the interesting places you have visited but second and mostly, for the gorgeous pictures you take, a real talent there!

Thanks!
Thanks for the nice compliment on the pictures. We have now been travelling (slowly) for almost 5 years straight and we have visited 28 countries. We have a hard time keeping up with all the blogs we follow also. Better late than never though! Thanks for the nice comment. We appreciate it!
