Laerdal, Norway was the birthplace of Warren's maternal grandfather and we made contact there with two of his cousins - Ingebrigt Wangensteen Gjerde and Kari Marie Gjerde. We spent three days in Laerdal meeting and visiting with these Norwegian cousins. Ingebrigt gave us several tours of the town and area including many old wooden houses in town, farms outside of the town, a trip to a Stave Church and even a 6 hole golf course. He invited us to his home to meet his wife Gudveig and family where they were so gracious and served us coffee and cake several times (the Norwegians really like their coffee). Kari Marie also had us to her home where she lives with her friend Per. She served us coffee and a traditional Norwegian supper of Lox, eggs, several meats and cheeses (including Gamalost- a Norwegian brown cheese made from goats milk and is really quite good). Warren and cousins had a great time sharing many stories and family history. We had a wonderful visit and it was a memorable experience to see Laerdal, a beautiful town situated at the end of a fjord. We enjoyed meeting these Norwegian cousins and hope to see them again in the USA.

Soooo beautiful
Hi Mom and Dad: what a trip you are having. It is soo gorgeous. I can't believe all the people you have connected with. That is great. We are all well, the weather has warmed up. We were in a golf touney on Sunday and Monday over the 4th of July. Of course those were two of the hotter days. We are leaving on Friday for Oregon and have changed our vacation plans a bit. We aren't going to go to the National parks as we had planned. Mike hasn't worked as much lately and to save money we are going to go to Peters cabin and maybe Kim next doors sonoma house her parents own. We are playing it by ear. We need to finalize it today or tomorrow. We will let you know if we will be home to pick you up after all. We are planning a small engagement party for the kids on Friday the 30th of July. We would like you to be there if you don't have other plans. Talk to you soon and keep up the wonderful blog. You are doing a great job. Love to you both, Val
