Voss to GudvangenVoss to GudvangenVoss to Gudvangen

cloudy and rainey day
Woke up to our first cloudy and rainy day for our drive from Voss to Gudvangen where we are taking the ferry (a 3 hour cruise) to the town of Laerdal. The ferry cruise went first through the Naeroyfjord (the narrowest fjord and on the UNESCO World Heritage List) and then the Sognefjord (the longest and deepest). We enjoyed dramatic scenery - steep mountainsides and many waterfalls cascading down. There were many small villages and farms perched here and there alongside the narrow edges of the fjords. Most were built long ago where the soil was the most fertile and were in very remote areas, reminding us of the tough and lonely lives led by those who lived here many many years ago
