In Norwegian fjell means mountain (or fell) and hence we have National Park of Dovre and Sunndal Mountains. Despite the fact that the park was founded only in 2002, the region features in Nordic mythology and Norwegian history. Snow

Whether it was due to the relatively low altitude or time of the year (August), there was very little snow on my route. In fact this was the only time I had to cross through a small island of snow.

Vangshaugen

The only staffed hut, Vangshaugen. It was in this hostel that I had a delicious dinner. Also, I could take a shower after five days of hiking, so I did not smell that bad on the bus and train three days later.

Some valleys are unusually flat and wide. It seems that they arise when two opposite valleys get joined together through erosion. The pass which used to be in between the two valleys was eroded resulting in a very flat valley filled with a number of lakes and swamps. View of Sunndalen

Sunndalen is an extremely deep valley, at this point less than 100m above see level, surrounded by mountains well over 1000m high. Hence, the last day featured a very steep, over 1000 meters, descent. The mountains seen on the opposite side of the valley lie in Trollheimen (Home of the Trolls), another picturesque region.

Small flurry clouds hovering low in valleys is a phenomenon that I have seen only in Norway.

Center of Oppdal

Oppdal is a serious contender for the ugliest city award. The city center is marked by a large parking lot and a bunch of shopping centers. It seems that the only point of this city is for people leaving in farms and villages scattered around to drive here and buy supplies.
