Ok, now Mum - I don't want you to panic.... :-) Today's been a huge day - we were all up bright and early this morning to head off on a bicycle ride through the village of Edam (just outside Amsterdam). Thankfully the entire country is quite flat so the ride wasn't too taxing - although a fairly large group of us did manage to get lost for a little while... After that it was off to see how cheese and clogs are made, and most importantly, sample some of the local cheeses (mmm, I LOVE Edam cheese). Soon after we were dropped in the city of Amsterdam to fend for ourselves for the day. We'd already had a bit of a glimpse of the place last night when we went on a canal cruise and ... read more

We realised that we have to change some clothes to survive. Sometimes in Moscow is also very cold but in March we expected to see green trees and tulips. ... read more

I've got cold, my feets are hurts, nothing to say... It was a nice try to write a diary but I think a bit booring. Firstly I was looking for Internet cafe. Than it was another problem how to download pictures. Not everywhere its possible. Finally I found connection and USB port in my hotel, well may be its interesting for somebody to see this pictures at least. I would say this is not the best idea to walk through the white streets. Amsterdam is much better when it warm and sun is shining... Today is gonna be better day, I hope (in terms of whether) It was sun in the early morning. Pore people think they survive when nuclear winter comes. No they don't........ read more

I didn't expect there will be so cold. I would say it is my first time when I see snow in Amsterdam, and probably for other tourists too. I've met some people, they were in shirts while temperature outside is minus 9 C. But if we arrived in any case we have to party. First day we were walking a lot. We live practically in the heart of old city near the Koninklijk Paleis. Its nice location for visiting museums.... read more

Well the last 12 days sure were one of a kind! I spent them working as an information hostess for Audi at the AUTORAI 2005. I stood at the main desk in front of the stand with 2-3 other hostesses, trying to provide possible future Audi clients (and a lot of annoying little bratty kids) with the Audi information they needed. (aka give them brochures/posters, or point to one of the car advisors) Although I like to think I'm quite the Audi specialist now :) A lot of our time was spent rolling posters....one of the big favourite giveaways at our stand. We'd get people just wanting free stuff, not really caring what brand car stand they were at. I did make sure that everyone politely asked for any kind of giveaway. I held on to ... read more

Today I must sadly say goodbye to Europe. It has been a wonderful month and I have been so fortunate to reconnect with so many great friends, all of whom are welcome to visit anytime in the states. Thank you to everyone back home who kept in touch with me during this trip (even those who just commented on my fashion sense;-) ) Ciao... read more

As this is the first time i'm going to be traveling to many places all by myself i have decided to take a backpack instead of a suitcase ... of course way heavier than i thought, i put it on a chair and while i was balancing myself straight, my dog Poo (who happens to be a small calf ...) brushed by mi ... not used to having such a load on my back, i fell over and the backpack got pinned between the floor and myself ... i looked like a turtle, limbs flailing around ... with difficulty i turned over, somehow got myself up again (with the load) and walked straight to my suitcase with wheels ... and that's how i've decided to travel... read more

It is the night before the last day at work and things are really coming to an end here! All I have now fits into a suitcase and ultimately the rucksack I will be taking with me to South America. I still have a couple of weeks to go - the real adventure will be starting on Feb 21st when I fly into Rio…. ... read more

Arrived early today and got my Eurail Pass validated. It was easy to get to downtown Amsterdam where I stored my Backpack in a locker ($5.70 exact change only, I couldn't overpay and had to find someone to break a 1 euro coin, why didn't they just charge $6???) Wandered the streets, ate some simple meals and when the weather started to get rainy I hopped a train to Dordrecht to meet up with Brian and Ann my hosts for the first few days of my trip. I'll go explore more of Amsterdam tomorrow.... read more
