Hey all... I've been having some email issues so I'm resending this... many of you didn't get it! Sorry if you are one of the few who did receive it! Next installment to come soon... Paris is beautiful! Love and miss you all... Well, after a frantic week of prep + goodbyes, I'm here, safe and sound. And I've already learned a few lessons the hard way... 1) The world is a really big place. My flight was on a 747 with over 650 people making their way to europe and beyond. As I looked around, I would have to say only 1 in 6 people were white. Most were connecting to flights in the mid-east and asia. I know we are all multi-cultural in Toronto but listening to all of the languages in the ... read more

So after a yar of waiting to go I finally made it. I arrived about 5 hours earlier than my partner in crime. I headed straight to Mellow Yellow which was situated right next to our hotel, and smoked one of the biggest blunts I have ever seen. Rolled by yours truley it was a master piece. Cath arrived that night at 1am. We woke up got high and headed to the Heineken Factory, spent and hour or so there and then moved on to the Holland Casino. After totally fucking up the slot machines (we put coins in the slot instead of tokens) we heaed to Anne Franks house, which we didn't stop to have a look as the line was massive and we both hate waiting. We decided to head to the Red Light ... read more

Amsterdam is like New Orleans. People go there to have sex and get messed up. So what were we doing there? Well, it started off with us standing in Heathrow, not knowing what time our flight was, what number it was or even the name of the airline. However, by some weird twist of fate, we wound up on a plane there. After trains and planes and buses and everything being in Dutch, we wound up at the hostel, which was smack on the edge of the red light district. When I opened the door to our room, five guys were sitting around a table doing lines. So, we kind of threw our stuff down and went to the Heineken Brewery. That was pretty cool because they gave you a free beer every floor...not as dramatic ... read more

We took again a night train towards Amsterdam now more used to the mechanic of sleeping on the train, I've sleep like a baby. We arrived to Amsterdam Centraal and decide to spent the night after two countries , one problem ,there was not a blody room on any hotel or hostel so after going to a hostel we've found on our guide the owner sent us to his brother hotel, mmmmm anothe experience for the blog after being walking for almost 2 hours with the backpack and asking for directions every five minutes we arrived to this scary "hotel" ; we arrived to a creepy bar (the reception) then this guy showed our room, a filty crappy room with old beds and a mirror with grafitti on it; but at this part of the travel ... read more

Well Fleur and Bart talked us into spending a weekend in Amsterdam at their place so they can play tourist with us, we thought why not. They were looking forward to being able to be a real tourist while showing us around at the same time. Bart was working Friday so it was just FLeur showing us the Anne Frank House and cycling with either Leeza or myself on the back of the fiets (bike) and the other riding the other fiets. It was an interesting experience riding around a big busy city on the back of a fiets and it doesnt cost anything. It was difintely an interesting feeling walking around a house that hid people from the Nazis way back in the war days. It was really small and there were a lot of ... read more

21st, 22nd and 23rd October 2005 Amsterdam, Netherlands. WARNING! CONTENT DOES INCLUDE SOME REFERENCES TO PROSTITUTION, NUDITY, ETC. Day 10 Leaving our lovely castle in the wee hours of the morning - indeed, before there was enough light to attempt more than a few half-hearted photos (what's the use in staying in a castle if you don't get to see it?) - we headed north across the border and into the gradually flatter plains of the Netherlands. I should mention here that while many people refer to the country as Holland, that’s actually just a region (or several provinces) in the central-western part of the land, and was never the name of the country. The true name is actually the 'Kingdom of the Netherlands', or Netherlands for short. The first stop was in a rural area ... read more

Geo: 52.3738, 4.89095Hi all,Steve and I are back home in Amsterdam. It's very relaxing to know you don't have a ton of things you really want to see. The weather here is of course cool and cloudy with rain off and on. It makes up happy that we take the advice of our favorite travel writer and "if you can pack one coat, make it a rain coat". Dam square doesn't even look like itself this weekend. There is a huge carnival going on with all the crazy unsafe rides not allowed in the US. Christine, can't help thinking about you. Enjoying the Westveleteren. We cross the pond for home tomorrow. Not looking forward to many hours in the air, but our feet need a break. Can't wait to see everyone, especially that tiny dog. Hope ... read more

OCT 21st, 2005 Woohoo! I made it. Well at least almost half-way… Arun, I LOVE YA (hahaha wait ‘till the next part of my sentence before you have some kind of panic attack…) cause your recipe worked: 2 Gravols 1 hour before + at least 1 drink during flight = AMAZING! thanks as well to JF for your awesome email… it felt safer knowing that you were controlling & watching my plane take off!) So yeah, I have managed to overcome my fear of flying (about time!!!!); well ok I still don’t like take-off… but I manage to relax as soon as we’re up in the air. Anyway the flight to Amsterdam was very good… hardly any turbulence… the Italian guy sitting next to me wasn’t so entertaining nor was he too chatty… but I think ... read more

I really shouldn't write much about what happened in Amsterdam! Travelling in from St Goar we spent time at a clog and cheese factory, learning how to make clogs and trying them on. We also made our way to 'Bike a Dijk' and cycled around the canals, or dijks, on some interesting bikes which was great. To Amsterdam it was and some nights out taking in the local culture and shows was an interesting experience, I was even asked to be involved in one of the "shows", which again was an experience. We managed to make our way to Van Gogh's museum, with many of his works there. While also heading to the Heineken Museum (which Dave loved!) and go through the company's history and all that jazz, with a couple of samples to finish off. ... read more

Another whirlwind stopover. Spent the night in a Christian hostel with the Boys and Girls Club of Poland... theres a first. I involentarily got to attend their meeting as well. They took over the lounge in the middle of my dinner. Didn't understand much of it but they had cool pictures. They also had a sing along in Polish. I laughed at how unbelievable this trip has been. Amsterdam was beautiful. I really didn't get to see much of it at all. Saw Anne Frank's house from outside. The end of October and there was still an hour line. I went into shops and admired their blue and white china. Thank goodness it was really expensive. My back was killing me at this point with all my stuff! One tiny glass ornament was 40 Euro.
