The real walk
trail on the other side of the wall walk Our days here are coming to end soon......... so on the beautiful day which also happens to be the other Christmas celebrated here in Montenegro, the Orthodox Christmas, perfect day for a last hike. Now most people blog about the hike up the old fortress wall starting in Old town, which is a fabulous walk up 1320 some stairs but the hike we enjoy is on the other side of the walls. Quiet, except the odd call from the hillside goats, or the odd stray cow, it is about 4 km hike straight up to the top. We did this one time before but got way laid at a house the had a small pub, but this time we were determined to make it too the top.(hopefully).
The trail is an old road at the bottom of the hill with many many switchbacks. As you get up toward the house it gets a little steeper, after the house it really gets challenging. I used polls. There is a family that we met the first time in the house, the grandmother goes down to the town a couple times a week, the yound lady that is there told us she walks
Walk
Met her on the way up, I did not know where she was going. But met her later at her house. I felt bad that we didn't carry her bags down to school everyday, she leaves about 6:30 am. We meet her after she and dad had been up the trail to get wood with the donkey.
From there house, they will show you a trail over to the old city wall, that you can go through one of the windows back to the town, but we chose to continue on up the small trail that they use to get wood. Give you a different perspective on how others live, and that the view you get from this house would make you smile everyday!
If you get the chance to make this climb you should , but don't forget your walking poles, stop in to see the family and enjoy the view.
