Podgorica, Virpazar (Lake Skadar), Budva, Kotor, Montenegro 3 to 5 July 2013 We got up early from our Bushat, Camping Albania and was on the road by 8.30am after our fresh bread was delivered. We were off to Montenegro. As we were crossing the river that flowed out of Lake Skadar (Albania side) we saw a secondhand bike place. Tom found a suitable bike. It had riden around Italy so the tires needed changing. They didn’t have the right size so the guys serviced it and we tied it onto the back of the camper. Crossing the border was no problem. About 30 kms after the border crossing we arrived at the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica (population 145,000). The roads had been good (later they were not so good!). We drove around the city and saw ... read more

Linnoituskaupungista toiseen - Kotorin kautta Budvaan Dubrovnik jäi taakse ja matka jatkui Montenegron Budvaan jonne saavuimme pohjoisesta Hertzeg Novin ja Kotorin kautta. Adrian meren rannikko koko Kroatian matkalta on vuoristoista ja karua mutta maisemiltaan silti todella upeaa. Korkeat sypressit kasvavat ihan rantakallioille ja pinjametsiköt reunustavat teitä. Montenegroon saapuessa maisemat kuitenkin hieman muuttuvat ja etenkin Kotorin lahti on varsin erinäköinen kuin Kroatian rannikko. Kotorin lahti on pitkälle sisämaahan työntynyt lahti joka vaikuttaa melkeinpä vuonolta – lahtea reunustavat korkeat ja jyrkät vuorenseinämät ja lahden rannalla pilkistelee useita pieniä ja vähän isompia vanhoja kaupunkeja. Lahden perimmäisestä nurkasta löytyikin jälleen oikein helmi – Kotorin vanha linnoituskaupunki. Kaupungin satamassa on lukematon määrä upeita suuria purje- ja moot... read more

After the intensely urban Belgrade, it was refreshing to fly into Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. My flight was delayed so I got in late and didn't have time to walk around the city as I planned, but the next morning I had a beautiful view from my hotel room. I caught the bus to Budva, a very popular resort town on the coast. Our minibus went through winding mountain roads navigated carefully by our driver. The old town of Budva was about 30 minutes walk from my hotel, but most of that walk was along the coast on a touristy promenade. ... read more

Dubrovnik It never ceased to amaze me that I can travel "alone" & yet never really be alone!! mostly I see this as a blessing... though, there were times that I truly cherished my 'alone time'--- Dubrovnik gave me that after a loooong time of travelling with others.... well at least for one day it did.. haha!! Ola, Ange and I split up in Barcelona... Ola headed for the only corner of Spain she hadn't seen yet - the north-west part; Ange flew to Belgrade to meet up with Effie & Dragan who were travelling in Montenegro from Australia; and I flew to Dubrovnik to mee Ange & co 2 days later... If taking a cheap flight from Spain, its common to fly Vueling Airlines - despite their many strikes & known delays :p I found ... read more
