April showers bring May flowers

Already a month in... unbelievable!
Had a great weekend with Agathe
hung out with her friends and toured around Nantes
Her mom took us to the west coast on sunday
Beautiful day!
she showed us how they harvest the salt from the ocean
they diverge the water into little streams each more shallow than the previous
until their is only a few inches of salt water which they separate into fields.
during the summer the sun heats up the shallow pools and the water evaporates
leaving just the salt to be harvested by hand
its really interesting to see the process and the patience of these people who still work in such an traditional fashion, completely at the mercy of mother nature for the yield of each crop
and all the labour without any equipment more complex than a wheelbarrow.. really amazing.
we had a picnic right on the water
and spent the afternoon exploring all the sea creatures left behind in the low tide.
drove a little farther up the coast and walked along the beach
still way too cold to swim
the sun was hot but the wind kept us cool
of course Lynsey got burnt
on monday we grabbed the train from Nantes to Auray
and then from there took the bus down to Quiberon
almost an island (Presqu'ile) off of the main land
a very cute, tourist town
wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been
because it was so cold and windy and rained the whole time....
didn't help either that our refuge (aka hostel) didn't have any hot water...or heat.
by far the most budget hostel yet
wandered around the town for as long as we could manage to fight the wind and rain
then came back to the "hostel" and had to huddle togther in a single bed for warmth.
wednesday we had to be up before the sun
5:00 am to be exact, in order to travel accross France to get to Lux
we stumbled around in the dark and even made it to the bus stop half hour early ..go us!
but surprise surprise wrong bus stop.
just great:
cold.
wet.
tried.
-no, exhausted.
grumpy? :Lynsey
so here we are standing in the dark- nothing open
not a soul ..anywhere
and we had missed the ONLY train to Paris that would then get us to Luxembourg, because of the civic holiday on Friday.
so we ran to the right bus stop and caught that bus thankfully
then made it back to Auray and pleaded with the train lady to figure out the mess we had made
i guess we had found ourselves under some sort of lucky star.. or was our canadian charm?
but we figured it out and arrived spent, smelly, and starving
but none the less excited to meet sarah at the door with open arms
after a nice meal
a hot shower
and into Sarahs clean clothes
we were oh so ready for our nice warm bed.
good to be back

Haha, wrong bus stop....why am i not surprised! Hope you are eating better than when you came to us, maybe get exciting and eat a banana instead of an apple or pear :) haha! Love you guys, missing you lots and lots! x x x x
