Morning everyone. So we struggled through rain and cold yesterday for 108 miles before reaching our stop for the night. We travelled through some lovely Lithuanian country side, lots of rolling hills, lakes, forests lovely panoramas, eventually descending onto the flatter lands some 30 miles from Panevezys. The last 20 miles was tough but our spirits were lifted when we saw all the Rugute Captains waiting in Panevezys. After an all too short a stop to visittwitch the Captains we had to head onwards to our Hotel for the night 6 km aeay on the west side of town. After a shower and some food we all felt much better. Cold beer and a sauna sorted us out completely. :-) It is now the morning of Day 2. The sun is shining with a blue sky ... read more

Sorry for the lack of updates but internet access has been a challenge to say the least. Just waking up in Taurage on Thursday morning. After a quick visit to the Hill of Crosses Tuesday was an interesting day with our first major incident being a puncture for John about an hour after we had set off. The countryside continues to roll by and the morning was good going. In the afternoon we started to climb steadily into the 'highlands' not really hills but a series of very steady climbs. By the time we had reached our destination (Plateliai) we knew we had been cycling uphill for a while! We were met by a local lady who took us on a guided tour of a nearby ex nuclear missile facility built by the Russians in 1960/62. ... read more

Well, what a day so far. We had an excellent night in the Big Stone hotel in Ukmerge, if you are ever in the area you could do alot worse than stopping here. Very friendly staff, great food. We left a little later than planned this morning after repacking out bags and the van, but we made excellent time Panevezys. We followed Route 147 North from Ukmerge through some gorgeous country side, mostly flat open landscape with loads of small chalets / villages and hundreds of Storks living everywhere. We hit route 21 and found a perfectly smooth road for the last 12 miles into town. When we got to Panevezys we met Rugute again and met Naglis a 6 year old boy who was supported by Rugute. He was very talkative and wants to be ... read more

We have had a good start today. After a good breakfast we set off on a northerly course. The roads are as flat as Norfolk and as the morning has gone on the wind has got more and more behind us. Talking of behinds, its a bit tender but nothing to worry about! Were having lunch now in Panevezys having just said hi to another of the Rugute children, Naglis a little boy who is 6 years old. It is really humbling to keep meeting the children that we are helping by raising money for Rugute but it is also very encouraging and keeps it real.... read more

Had a great journey getting to Panavezys. Much easier going and the weather is great (need to get some sunblock!). Large open country with lots of Storks and gentle rolling hills. If you are staying in Ukmerge then I would recommend the Big Stone - great service and lovely food. We are eating in Katpedele and have just had some pizzas - yummy! Off to Siauliai now.... read more
