Spent a whole day in Europe's 3rd smallest country, Liechtenstein. It's basically an Austria County to begin with, and somehow over the years, gain independence. However, the Money and postal system is same as Switz and the Language is basically, German. The Size of this country is like...less than half of NT in Hong Kong!! but here even less land coz mostly dominated by mountains!! Its more like a small city by the Rhine River Valley.... Anyways, took the bus straight to the capital - Vaduz. They didn't doany border check, They only have a border set with Austria but they basically don't check it! except maybe some trucks and cars... So, first thing, tothe tourist office, for a map and an Entry Stamp!! haaaaaa!!! Had to pay to get it stamped, but its ok, at ... read more

Left the lakes and arrived in the Tyrol region of Austria! decided to stay near the border of Liechtenstein, in a town called Feldkirch coz the hostel was cheaper! haaaaa! On the train ride there, the sky was beautiful and the mountains and villages were very nice to look at. Then, went through a tunnel for about 5 mins, came back out and FOGFOGFOG! Visibility level became 100metres!!!! OMG.......and the whole evening was glooomy. Anyways, arrived late and everything was closed.....then found out the Night museum tour was tonight! one price for all museums and free bus rides!!! Strolled around Feldkirch first and went to this exhibit that had nice pieces, but I couldn't get the meaning of it at all. then, Ihopped on and first went over to the museums in Vaduz! Vaduz was pretty ... read more

Europe……… We loved the ferry trip from Dover to Calais in France, once again the sun shone and it was a smooth crossing. To meet us was our guide Francesca who’s a real sweetie. It was then off to Belguim where we spent our first night in Brussels. After a tour of the city with a local guide we dined out in one of the streets at a Greek restaurant and we were serenaded by a couple of local musicians. The next day it was Brekkie in Belgium, smoko in Luxembourg, lunch in France and Switzerland for Tea!!!!!! Not as crazy as it sounds just the way we had to head to get to Switzerland. There’s a great bunch on the bus. As usual, Alan is like the Court Jester, though they all call him “Exit” ... read more

So... Morgan and i are supposed to be in Austria right now. last sunday morgan emailed Monika, the woman we were supposed to stay with near schladming, austria, and asked her whether it would be better for us to come on monday or tuesday. we had a ride to the train lined up and had scouted tickets. then on monday i was returning a coffee cup to the coffee room and Andreas Möck, a maintenance man i work with, asked if morgan and i wanted to go windsurfing in italy on lake como with him for a week so very suddenly all of our plans changed. so as a result we are still at the school at bodensee. we will leave tomorrow morning at 630am and drive with Gotti, Anja, and Andreas. so last tuesday we ... read more

We stopped over for a very early lunch in the 4th smallest country in the world, Liechtenstein, on the way to Switzerland on the 3rd of July... as you do!! We only spent an hour and a half here. The centre of town was very small and everything including food was quite expensive. The scenery was very beautiful, but we didn't find the place very interesting. It was a good experience to see it though :)!... read more

We once again buy dinner from a farm house in Switzerland just before going into Liechtenstein. Farmer's sausage. A very lovely day with a great break at 3 p.m. at the end of the lake (swimming and ice cream). Interesting finding our way around Liechtenstein. ... read more

Oh yes, if ever there is a country that boxes above its weight, it has got to be Liechtenstein. In only 160 square kilometres (62 sq miles) you can view amazing alps, sample some of the worlds finest wine, drink crystal clear water, try mountain biking, skiing, bushwalking, fishing or you can just plonk your bum down and sip coffee and people watch. The country (well, officially a principality) is the worlds 4th smallest. But dont be fooled by its size. It is surrounde by the Saminata mountains on one side and the Swiss Alps on the other. The highest peak is 2599m -Mt. Grauspitz. Most people after a trluy magnificent view take the chairlift from Malbun to the Sareiserjoch. This chairlift takes you from 1600 metres above sea level to 2000 m (or 5250 feet ... read more

Traveling to Luzern Today we had to leave Kitzbuhel behind despite all of the fun we had enjoyed there. After breakfast we packed, checked out and got on the road. The trip to Luzern was a bit longer than we had taken in a while (4.5 hours) so we wanted to make sure we got on the road pretty early. Liechtenstein… Tom Tom sometimes takes us on routes that seem a little circuitous but always seem to get us where we are going eventually. Today’s circuitous route took us through the principality of Liechtenstein. The country is situated in the middle of the Alps and is only 4 miles by 12 miles. Today I think we saw at least 80 percent of the country. The capital of Vaduz is situated in a valley surrounded by ... read more

Well... Where do I start? Cherie has made me write this blog as she wanted to waste about as much time writing this as she did hanging out in Liechtenstien. I was already in trouble for the 9+hrs train ride back through Switzerland (which was beautiful) and spending a night in a little backwater town called Sargans which was more expensive than i predicted. Especially when she realised we could've gone straight from Venice to Innsbruck/Austria in about 6hrs. All this just to see a little country called Liechtenstein!!! My only defence is that Shelly and the team from the 'Great Outdoors' did an amazing job making this place look like the place to visit. Don't get me wrong now, especially if there are any Liechtensteinians reading this, it is a quaint little country and Vaduz ... read more

Today we embarked on a 10 day road trip around Europe. We have a vague idea of where we want to go, but will also let the road take us where it will. Our target area for today was Fussen, Germany and the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. After a confusing drive from the city center to the freeway (GREEN signs mean freeway, blue is side roads, white is tiny streets), we decided to detour off to Appenzel for lunch. Appenzel is famous for its cheeses. We had a nice warm bowl of pumpkin soup (it was a foggy, chilly day) followed by a plate with a sampling of the local cheeses. Then came dessert and the best chocolate mousse I have ever had; it was so fluffy it was like chocolate air! Upon consulting the map over ... read more
