Trevi Fountain
Rome ... it was pretty impressive! We didn't REALLY have pizza with the pope.
Internet is unbelievably retardedly expensive in Europe (aka anywhere from 4 to 9 Euros an hour) ... soooo we use it sparsely! Here is an update:
Leaving Greece was as much of a gong show as entering it. We met a new amigo in Athens, who was also heading to Italy, and the three of us all have Eurail passes and were told that the ferry from Greece to Italy is FREE ... so of course we signed up! The lady at the ferry counter assured us that we would have seats inside on the overnight ferry from Patras Greece to Bari Italy. Sooo, imagine our surprise when we board the ferry and discover that the 2nd class Eurail pass = 2nd class citizen! The free seats were on the deck. As in ... up on the top of the ship. Outside. The ride takes about 16 hours, and January in Greece is COLD. We were not impressed. It was one of those moments where we just sat there ... fuming ... and every minute that passed made it worse and worse! So, armed with a bottle of cheap wine (2.90
Euros) and a mini dvd player, the three of us decided to make the best of a reeeaally bad situation and slept in the hallway outside the crew quarters. Trevor and Jesus got drunk on the wine. It made time pass, and gave many people a great photo op. That just about sums up Greece for us.
Now onto Italy ... we started in Naples. It is a creepy, dirty city. There is a trash problem, having something to do with the mafia. We don't know the details, but we do know that the city stinks and there are piles of garbage everywhere. And shady characters galore. Our reason for being there was just to see the city of Pompeii (the city that was buried in a volcanic explosion in 79 AD). It was by far the "best" ruins we have seen on our trip ... the city is very well preserved and it was incredible to see!
Next we were off to Rome ... Rome was awesome! It is a great walking city, and there is soooo much to see! We have been fighting the whole "tourist trap thing" as much as possible, so with the exception
of the Vatican and the Colesseum, we pretty much steered clear of the museums and such. They aren't really our thing. The Vatican city was incredible to see ... St Peters Basillica is ginormous, and the Sistine Chapel is just as beautiful as everyone always says it is! We also had the pleasure of replacing our beloved camera AGAIN. This time it wasn't stolen ... but we dropped it on the sidewalk and now it is kaput. We were advised that the chances of us being severelly ripped off if we tried to repair were greater than the cost of buying a new one ... so we are now the proud owners of another beautiful camera! This one seems pretty awesome ... we double gaurd it with our lives ... we'll get this camera thing right eventually!
Enjoy the Photos!
