Coastline
This is a view of the Amalfi coastline. It's Tuesday and we're sitting here sipping on Lemoncello. We hired a driver to take us down the Amalfi coastline today. Just south of Sorrento, our first stop was the hillside town of Positano. Positano is the town where the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun" with Diane Lane was filmed. I would have figured that the movie would have been made in Tuscany, but no, they decide to film in the south coast....wierd. Anyway, Positano is a cute little hillside town. Nothing too special to it, but I would figure in the summer months it would be hopping with a lot of beach activity. We walked around for a bit and then got back in the van. By the way, the van is a Mercedes..we have never seen one like it in Calgary. It was pretty cool.
The Amalfi coast is absolutely beautiful. If we were to return to this part if Italy, we would love to stay on the coast for at least a week (rent motorcycles and travel the extremely windy coastline roads, which were built between WW I, and WW II). This coastline is very much influenced by not only the italian style, but by the Turks

Another view of the coastline road. as well. A lot of Moorish influence is prevelant in a lot of the architecture. After Positano, we drove over to Amalfi. Once there we visited the Amalfi Catherdral. In this catherdral, lays the remains of Saint Andrew, Jesus' first apostal. The church is beautiful and the crypt is gorgeous. We love going into these places, it's so surreal and very humbling.
After Amalfi, our driver Renato, took us to Ravello. This is yet another hillside town, but he took us here for lunch at a famous family run restaurant. Mama, greeted us immediately and we all ordered her hand made, home cooked pasta. It was very good. She came around asking the boys if they wanted seconds....no charge. Dan said NO, but Ron thought about it....almost...but he was too full. We got a free dessert, a lemoncello covered pastery...it was great. After lunch, we walked to an old villa, on the cliffs and the views were spectacular. After that, off to Sorrento we went, to try and miss the heavy traffic.
Back in Sorrento, we had a casual bottle of wine....number 39 by now, and contiplated where we were to go for dinner. After all the wonderful
Positano
View of Positano food we have eaten on this trip, we decided to go for the "cheap" place. Well, the food was extremely sub par, the only amusing thing was that during our whole meal, the theme songs for The Godfather was being played on a wild west style type of piano. It was really freaky, yet appropriate. At least the wine was good....bottle 40.. Some people we have been staying with at the B&B walked by and were looking at the menu posted outside the restaurant, Lissa got up and waved to them to leave and that the food sucked, we think the owner saw us doing this, so they charged us an extra 3% for "credit card usage" on our bill. Again, I think the mob is out for us. So if you don't hear from us by Friday, call Interpol.
Tomorrow we leave for Rome.....again call the authorities if you don't hear from us. The other travellers we have been talking to have warned us about Rome. Apparently there are a lot of thieves there. Just this evening a gal came into the B&B and she was pick pocketed in Naples (remember what I said about Naples). She lost
Construction Italian Style
They use horses to bring construction debris down the hills. They walk the animals up into the dump truck and unload the side boxes. her wallet with her credit cards and passport. At least she was able to cancel her cards right away, and she has an appointment to see the consulate tomorrow. We're sure she will be alright, but remember the train stations are full of thieves and pick pocketers.
Instead of taking the train to Rome, which is cheaper, we have decided to hire another driver to drive us to Rome. The trip will take about 3 to 4 hours, but with all of our luggage and the possibility of being robbed at the train stations (Naples), we will be better off driving directly there, door to door.
There will be a computer there, so we hope to blog from Rome. Ciao.
