Naples Port
All the cruise ships docked We made a major mistake in our travels....we went to Naples. Alright, well maybe we are being unfair because we only traveled as far as the first couple blocks from the train station, but it was pretty scarey. The only time during our entire trip that we both truely feared for our life...in more ways than one.
However, we were en route to the Island of Capri which we were SO excited about. We had seen a show on the Food Network (suprise, suprise) and fell instantly in love with the island and knew that we had to go there. Capri here we come....
It all started with the taxi ride to the port....let me just say that I have not yet been to New York however we can almost guarentee that this was the craziest ride (of any kind) we will ever take for the rest of our lives. Our driver at one point looked by and said, " too fast?" Both of us white knuckled and praying that we make it in one piece. I do not think I could speak, however Eric was able to squeeze out a confident, "oh no no, your fine." Let just say
that we both got out of the car saying, "Holy shit, what just happened?"
Once at the port we were able to buy the next ticket to Capri. We waited in the sunshine amongst all the gigantic floating cities known as cruise ships for our ferry to load.
We were finally here, Capri island. It was definately a place that we were looking forward to the entire trip. It was pretty warm but their was a salty, sea breeze that definately made it more bareable than Florence. As we waited in line for the local bus service (the cheapest, slowest, most crowded way of traveling the island) we watched all the beautiful people jump in the back of Capri Taxis and travel the winding roads up to the main towns. Eric tried multiple times to talk me into a taxi ride, I kept saying that we should just save our money. But after about a two hour wait for the bus, in the hot sun and a sardine packed miniture bus ride that winded and turned on the VERY edge of the cliffs up the hill to Anacapri....well lets just say, if I only knew. We were dropped
off at the very last stop of the bus route. This was only the beginning of our journey to the B&B. We found the walking path that was indicated on our emailed directions and started trekking up hill. We kept going, and going, and going. Up stairs and hills and dirt walkways and more stairs...all with our luggage in the hot sun. We were both so speechless that all we could do was laugh, which did not make the trek any easier. By the time we got to the very top of the hill, of course it had to be at the very top, we found the sign for the B&B. A pretty, little hand painted sign on an iron gate. We were praying that someone was home and we weren't suppose to call first...who knows where the nearest phone would have been. However, we were in luck. As we walked to the front side of the house we saw the view....it was absolutely breathtaking. After all that walking you think we would have realized that we were literally at the top of the island. We instantly forgot about every tired bone in our bodies, our sticky clothes and all
of our exhausting days of running around the mainland of Italy, Capri was paradise. You can see the gardens of our B&B in some of the displayed pictures, they were like nothing we had ever seen before. Our whole stay on Capri we kept saying that there must be something in the soil because everything grew more colorful, bigger and tastier than anywhere else. We were greeted with a pitcher of iced cold homemade lemonade made from the lemons in the garden, and as we sat on the front porch we just soaked it all in. Like most places we stayed, the owner gave us a run down of places to eat, see and explore. They were so kind to us the entire stay....by far the best place we stayed the entire trip and we stayed at alot of fantastic places.
Our stay on Capri included shopping (of course), exploring beaches, hiking around the mountain in the center of the island and simply relaxing. This was at the end of our trip and all we wanted to do was enjoy every minute of it. We filled our nights with delicious dinners and gelato for dessert and then we would
B&B Il Tramonto
Our B&B that we stayed at in Anacapri. The name means "The Sunset" and was named very well! buy a bottle of wine, go back to the B&B and just watch the sunset on the front porch. It could not have been any better.
We spent one day in Capri town which is the main town above the marina. It was suppose to be where the beautiful and wealthy of Italy go to play in the summertime and it certainly was. We realized very quickly that we had made the right choice to stay in our little town of Anacapri were things were casual and easy going.
