A different perspective of Venice today. It is overcast and spitting rain. We have arrived after leaving Canberra and having a stopover in Singapore for two nights. It helps to break the flight times but still makes for a 42 hour day as the flight left Singapore at 11:30 pm , flew to London where we had a 3 hour wait and then on to Venice. We had chosen our hotel due to its location - not the Grand Canal but the Piazzale Di Roma as we were checking in for a cruise the next day and needed to be close to the People Mover which would take us to the cruise terminal. The Hotel Arllechino was the perfect location. A refreshing complimentary Prosecco while we waited to checkin was well received. The rain increased and so we decided against a big walk around Venice but rather just enough to familiarise ourselves with where to go the next day. We also stocked up on our two allowable bottles of wine to take to the cruise. After a pizza and Spritz we decided to retire for the day.

After breakfast and checkout we ventured over to the People Mover - a

Near Piazzale Di Roma. Very good location for cruises and trains
light rail system that takes you to the cruise terminal. Very efficient. The sun has come out today and we walk from the station to the terminal. Of course our boat is at the furthest pier. The little wheels on our suitcases are getting a great workout. Finally able to get rid of them and join the throng awaiting boarding. Takes a while but at least the terminal is air- conditioned. We are finally called, through security and onto the boat. We opted for a suite this time and are not disappointed. More room!!!! Yay!!!! Very comfortable. Great innovations such as a light that stays on permanently in the bathroom and to further help with nighttime trips to the bathroom the bedside lighting also stays on and is dimmed very low. Great idea. We head off to lunch and the surroundings are familiar. This is our third Holland America cruise. A great new addition to the Lido restaurant is a salad bar where you can request a salad made of lots of fresh ingredients. This was to be our lunch most days. Delicious. The rest of the day was business as usual safety drill, unpacking and settling in.My dream to

Early morning setup of the gondola after rain washed out play the day before
sail out of Venice came true. It was sunny and wonderful. Great photos looking at the Bridge of Sighs and the crowds. A wonderful afternoon.

The next day is a day at sea. Good to relax and take advantage of the Microsoft sponsored Digital workshops on Windows 10, editing photos etc. Up to the Crows Nest bar for the first happy hour.

Our first stop is Kataklion, Greece.
