VENEZIA! flamboyant, bourgeois city, all glitzy and very picture-postcard pretty - but a bit useless overall...i had the whole evening and morning free and pretty much saw everything there was to see before my afternoon city tour (slightly hindered by long lines at the post office)...but it was good in the end because the guide gave us info about how the city was built, and why some buildings lean, and what happens to the sewerage when high tide comes in and the city floods...venice is made up of 160 islands and 420 bridges, so every time you cross a bridge you are swapping islands...interesting stuff
uuuhhh...she also said, with the aid of a map and everything, that the venetians had conquered greece...someone needs to (a) tell the greeks that, (b) google that shit and tell me if it's true, and (c) if so, go smack all my greek school teachers over the head...important information, people!
so venice, very pretty, very expensive...oh, what's rudder than an italian? a rich italian! i did one of my favourite things (sat back with a coffee and watched people) and i swear the rich were walking around like there was no one in front or behind
them, just ever so gently pushing people out of the way...so very weird
fake bags melt, by the way...they had these signs all over the city translated into multiple languages; on the left a beautiful shiny (cartoon) bag, on the right the same bag melted, and underneath it said that 'fake bags are dangerous'...i still don't get it, but i suppose if it melts and ruins my cigarettes, that might be bad
i mentioned the post office...yes,i sent off my first package of extra baggage/souvenirs...i spoke to my mum on the phone just as i arrived and she seemed quite choked up that i was in venice...she's never mentioned anything about it before, but she knows i'm daddy's girl and there may be a story in there about another boy...hhhmmmm...so i bought her a carnavale mask, a proper one...she'll love it so much 😊
12 euros for a coffee, i shit you not! 6 for the espresso, and a 6 covercharge because they had an orchestra playing...meh!
i'm heading off to cooler climates now...hopefully the locals will be nicer...some random person recently told me that he thought the locals in greece were really nice, and i laughed at him...sorry random person who i don't
remember, loooks like you were right so far (actually, to clear it up, the local hospitality staff were rude...the normal people seemed quite nice)
PICS:
-have you ever stayed in a room that is so incredibly tiny but so beautiful that it's perfect? i loved this hotel....it was in multiple buildings because the corridors twisted and turned, and i think the one outside my room moved, like it was floating or something weird...the room was as wide as a double bed and the door...that's it
-me in a self-shot on the gondola ride...this one clearly falls under the "you're a dick" category, but it's ok to be one if you already know you are one
-day and night shots
