oh my!oh my!oh my!

is this a shower or a toilet?
Our last night in Rome was fun with some interesting parts. Our first taxi experience didnt go so great. Our host at Alice in Wonderland called the taxi for us and instructed them where we wanted to go. We told the driver as well with a map where we wanted to go. The meter was alreay at 6 euros when we got in and maxi said that it would be about 12 euros. The driver drop us off in the wrong place and the ride cost us 16 euros. We were a little bit disoriented because of where he dropped us off but found the place recommended to us by Elke at Alice in Wonderland eventually. Augusto's located in an area called Trastevere (a kind of hip area with lots of bars and restaurants) was exactly as she described. Augusto's has a set menu and they just give you the options. Our waitress spoke very good english and was very nice to us. We finally figured out that the dinner was a multi-course meal and just went with it eventhough we were full after the first course which was pasta and bread and ended up having dessert. In the end it

cost just as much as our other dinners we had been having and we left very happy. The most interesting part of our experience at Augusto's was the loo. I had heard of the squatting toilets and experienced some, but this was over the edge. See picture. I was worried about how we were going to get home most of the evening because I dont think that we wanted to try the taxi thing again and maxi had said that they are hard to hail, so we tried catching the metro which was closed. We decided to walk. I was on alert the whole way because there was no one around, it was pitch black, 10pm at night and I am just all around a scaredy cat. Jenn was very confident and could of cared less. We both were happy to burn some calories for the walk took us an hour, Jenn broke in her boots and it actually wasnt raining and fairly warm which was quite pleasant. We actually broke a sweat.

We woke early to catch the train to Venice and didnt get breakfast. We thought an hour would give us enough time to catch the metro and then train, but we watched several metros go by because they were packed like sardines. We finally squeezed in about 30 minutes later and hussled to the train station, grabbed a croissant and found our seats with just a few minutes to spare. Again we had first class seats with the business travelers and got lots of curious looks. The train ride was 3 hours and the scenery was snow and fog. The fog was so thick at times you couldnt see anything. We got off the train in the fog as well. We arrived at the hostel after taking the water bus and we were greeted by a very to the point host. This has by far been our least favorite hostel but it had a warm shower and a bed and Very interesting artwork. We arent going to post the pictures we took of it because they are R-rated. We walked around Venice looking at the shops and churches most of the evening. We've had our fare share of pizza and pasta so we ate at the chinese restaurant next door for a change. It was soooooooo good. One thing that we have noticed in Venice is

is this really our hostel?
that everyone speaks English which has made our trip here very pleasant. It is very cold here and we are looking forward to the warm weather in the French Riveria. The forecast for Nice is 55 degress. Wahoo. Today we are off to see the Piazza San marco and to walk around some more before our overnight train to Nice. We only have a few pictures to share because taking good pictures in the fog isnt easy.

Ciao Venice.
