Gondolas
Gondoliers under a bridge near San Marco's Square. We landed in Venice Treviso at 9.35 Local time, in the drizzling rain and headed through customs having experienced Europeans that do not understand queuing, did a bag reshuffle and headed out to the buses.
Not realising we had to buy a ticket before hand we put our bags into the luggage compartment and attempted to board. The conducter gave us a funny look abnd then proceeded to say something in Italien, to which we hurridly reclaimed our bags and went off in search of tickets.
An hour later we arrived in Venice's main bus station where a friendly Italian ticket seller pointed us to the discounts. Fancy bus/vaporetto ticket in hand we made our way to the campsite spotting some other backpackers to follow, we never found out where they went.
House tent 11 at the back of the campsite was home to us and a minor flood for the next 3 nights.
Heading back into Venice and taking a vaparetto down the grand canal to Lido, seeing chair deliveries by boat along the way. Chips, Italian beer and a cone of gelato we settled into Venitian life.
We headed back up to San
Burano
Pretty houses in Burano, Venice. Marco's Square, where along side the beautiful Basilisca di San Marco and the Torredell 'Orologio (a big fancy clock) were more novel sights like children holding pigeons on arms and heads. These pigeons are scared of NOTHING and happily pearched on many a childs arm.
Wandering up back streets and allyways we began to see Vebitian Tresures of Glass, Masks, and the occasional black market DG, we found a nice Ittalien tourest spot and settled in for carbonara and some wine. Sleepy and wanting out beds we headed back home losing our bearing in the dark we ended with a longer walk than intended, as soon as heads touched the pillow we had our first sleep for 48 hours.
Woke up early and got on the shuttle where we met the Canadian girl with no name who we went to breakfast with. Boarding a ferry in the wrong direction we stumbled upon residential Venice (Giudecca) with tours of Italian houses and a park. Back on another vap we got into a holiday zone Puna Sabbioni and had more beer before dashing to get a ferry with half a sarni-wrapped in tissue taking us back to hash browns in
Bekz and Cat
Us on the ferry from Murano. Stanstead.
Rows of pretty, colourful houses greeted us in Burano where there were rows of shops selling masks ranging from huge fancy 500E down to pretty 30E
Buying a mask from a little stall down on the edge from a man who spoke little english until his rather nice son turned up.
Then onto Murano famous for glass where we were ushered into a glass factory where the masters and their workers were making flowers for a chandelier. Wandered through shops seeing lots of pretty things we couldn't afford. But some pretty amaxing sculptures, signs against chinese glass and delicious home made lemonade.
Heading back to the station it became dark very quickly as the clouds rolled in. Waiting in the Queue to buy ticketd when a rather cocky Italien guy asked if we spoke english, incidently he did not. 'because are you here?' We manaaged to buy our tickets through a combinationb of rudimentary English (him) and nodding and pointing (us).
As is started pissing down with rain we were standing at the door deciding what to do when cocky Italian man returned with his two friends who were helping him translate into english but evidently thought he was being a twat. 10 EU kisses and a comparison of tongue piercings later we emerged in the raing to wander the streets yet again.
Whilst searching for somewhere to eat we were (practically) hit by lightening and ran back squealing much to the amusement of the local Italian man. We came back to the first restaurant where they had offered us a free drink. Apperatifs, bruchetta, salmon tagliatelli, spaghetti with seafood 1/2 litre of white wine and a small grass of Lemoncello helped us get over the shock of almost being electrecuted and we managed the 'long' journey home back to the campsite, with a minor grope from some Italien rose seller telling Bekz that she had big boobs and should therefore buy a rose, EU logic.
The next morning we had a bit of a lie in and woke to the sound of more tends being constructed behind us so we got up and tried to re-pack to no avail.
We headed back into venice to the islands to buy some more souviners. We had a very nive lunch in Burano - Lasagna followed by tiramisu (and more wine of course), We had to wait almost and hour to get on the vap back so we didn't make it back in time to see inside the Basilica in San Marco. (although we did meet a nice New Zeland couple on the ferry) We headed to the Gugenheim Collection of art but it was also shut to we decided to wander back to the bus station stopping to look at some of the many pretty churches along the way. We (eventually) made it back to the bus stop - much to Bekz's delight and made our way back to the campsite stopping to get a gelati on the way - attempted some Italian but it was met by much amusement by the practically fluent english speaking getlati vendor.
Update: Life is more intersting when you speak french-
waiting for the checkout we met a American/french/possible Italien (?) man who started talking to us, the Man on the desk spoke french so we started having a minimal chat in french, his contrabution '(Teirs) Jolly Ja amui teirs toi (??) basic tranlation your pretty i want to spend the night with you, to which Cat and I hurridely checked out and bolted the door incase of the hprney french man, subsequent screams later we concluded to Missoir Horny had got his way around the camp site.
