We arrived in Venice ahead of schedule, and our first excursion was to drive down to Verona to check it out for a few hours. Verona was a cool little city, which we thought was exceptionally clean for an Italian city. Before checking out the shops we did the usual tourist thing and checked out Juliet's balcony!
Once our time was up in Verona it was time to head back to Venice to our hotel. To say our hotel was in Venice was stretching the truth a little bit though... it was a bus ride, then ferry which all up took an hour or so depending on the traffic.
The 28th of June was our free day in Venice. After a Venetian glass demonstration we headed up the bell tower in the main square (which mind you, is infested with pigeons!). Thankfully the bell tower had a lift! The views from the top are spectacular, and we had such good weather that visibility was excellent. If we thought the streets in Florence were narrow - they had nothing on Venice! Hundreds of interconnecting streets and alleyways join 117 odd islands together making it a fascinating place to walk around

After Kim did some serious clothes shopping, we jumped into a gondola to do the traditional Venetian thing. The ride was fun, and it really gives you a sense of how all the islands join together to form the city.
Once the gondola ride was finished we ventured out to find a restaurant to have dinner at. There were lots to choose from but luckily we chose a great one and had one of the best meals of the entire tour! It went some way to make up for some of the dodgy pizzas we'd had in Italy 😊
Overall we both really enjoyed our time in Venice, and would consider coming back again because it was so charming!
