Again, our dear friends at online travel website, Savoteur have graced us with yet another list. These are places they want us to visit but only once. But I do agree with them on some choices. Las Vegas Well, I am somewhat biased, since we have dear friends who live there. We spend little to no time on the Strip or Downtown. In previous years, we met my Mom and many family members in December to celebrate her birthday. And we always stayed downtown. Disney World I agree, once is enough. But if you have young kids or grandkids, you are on the hook for another visit. Venice Once was too much, smelly, dirty, quite expensive, overrated. But the people were nice. It might be the worst place I have ever visited! Athens I could not disagree more. I have been there four times. I have been adopted by my Greek brothers. I love the food and culture. I am treated like royalty. I consider it my second home. If I were younger, I would consider moving there. Cancun Add in all of Mexico, and I take a pass. I have been to Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, and Mexico City. Never again!
And it has become more dangerous. London I would agree a few months ago. But since watching several English cop shows, I seem to have acquired a newfound interest in the British. I watched the entire series of "Morse" and "Line of Duty." I love some of their terminology, and the fact their cops do not carry guns! New York City I was just there for the xth time. I would agree, Midtown is a quagmire, a cesspool, taken over by the homeless. If I ever go back, I will pay twice the hotel rate for an uptown hotel. But it is difficult to disregard the Broadway shows, Yankee Stadium, classic dining, shopping, and excitement. Santorini I agree, once was enough. But it is a couple's place. The food is good but overpriced. The sunsets are fabulous, as are the people. The wine is interesting, high minerality, and grown much differently than anywhere else in the world. SF Wait! Are you kidding me? This is area was my home for over 50 years. But downtown SF is dirty, filled with homeless and even worse. The neighborhoods are great! Brussels Of all the places in the northern part of Europe, I
would not return here. Very safe, very boring. Go with the sprouts! Barcelona Though it was not a favorite, I would go back. Too many gypsies when I visited. The food is overrated, but the wine is cheap and decent.
My choices for never going back: Pisa, Machu Picchu, African safaris, Singapore, Macao, Morocco, Russia (all of it), Ecuador, Victoria Falls, Spanish Steps, Eiffel Tower, Graceland, Nepal, Montenegro, Gibraltar, Lyon, Thessaloniki, Brasov (Romania), and the Vatican.
But I consider myself quite fortunate to have experienced so much of the world and be able to say this from my past travels.
