We stayed in Padova on our first trip to Italy together, back in 2009, but we were there only a day and stayed near the train station. This time we rented an apartment on the Prato delle Valle, a big oval park at the edge of the historic center. The apartment was quiet, and well-appointed. I was a primary teacher in a K-12 alternative school. In 2006, I took a leave for four months, travelling through Central America. I visited schools and studied Spanish along with being a tourist. My class followed my travels through this blog. A painting by the Italian Renaissance artist Giorgione executed around 1503. The altarpiece was commissioned by the condottiero Tuzio Costanzo in memory of his son Matteo, who died of a fever whilst serving the Republic of Venice, in 1499.

The work has suffered bad restorations in the past centuries, and was stolen on December 10, 1972. After being recovered, it was accurately restored in 2002-2003 by the Accademia Laboratories in Venice and displayed in the major exhibition Le maraviglie dell'arte, before being returned to its home in Castelfranco in the December of 2005.
