Rachel and I before we went to the game...haha...w/just our leggings
I thought Mariah would like this one, since we saw all of those girls in the mall over Christmas break! Leggins are meant to be worn with LONG shirts!! Hellooooo!! Lol Last night was the soccer game! We had a crazy day!! First our Italian quiz, which I think I did really well on!! Then Professor Pate's class on the Individual and the community. We talked about Into the Wild as well as our Michelangelo book. We made ties between the two. We talked about .... Then Frank and I went shopping for stuff to wear to the game. I had to find a jersey (since Mariah had made a request) and Frank needed a jersey and happened to come across a scarf too! We found good bargains so that was nice! Then we headed back for dinner! After dinner a bunch of us had a couple of drinks and then we all headed out to the bus stop. While we were walking to the stop, we saw the bus coming up behind us so we had to sprint to the bus, but we all made it!! After getting to the stadium we went through security. That was kinda odd because their only two questions were "Do you smoke?" and "Do you have any liquids?" And later I wondered why they even ask if you smoke, because EVERYONE and their mom was
smoking in the stadium anyways. The game was an interesting experience. Florentina (Florence's team) was playing AJAX (Amsterdam's team). We had relatively good seats, but had to hike up quite a few stairs to get to them lol. The AJAX fans were all seated in one section, which was surrounded with plexi glass where all of the seats were, and with metal where the ground level was. We oh so lovingly referred to their section as "the cage." All of the fans were crazy! Then men rooting for Florence (the violet team) were swearing a whole lot. And the people in the AJAX section were throwing eachother into the plexi glass! It was like watching some strange animals in the cage. People in the U.S. don't act like that. I mean, I know there's an occasional fight between people at sporting events, but man...this was crazy! In fact, there was a fight and a man was arrested. Oh, another odd thing to mention was the fact that the men's line for the restroom was SUPER long and us females had NO wait!! That was amazing!! By about halftime we were all freezing!! I guess 3 layers of shirts, a hoodie,
a coat, leggings, jeans, boots, scarf, earmuffs, and gloves isn't enough for an evening Italian game. Florence lost 0-1. After the game things got interesting to say the least. We were leaving the stadium and 4 of us got separated from the group. So we headed for the bus stop! Thank God I had been paying attention on how to get back there because no one else had. I got us to the stop, but it turns out that we had JUST missed the bus. Well since the 67 bus (the night bus) only comes every 45 minutes, we got to wait out in the cold. The we finally caught the bus, but it turned out to be on the wrong side of the road. So we ended up riding the bus in the wrong direction, to the wrong side of town. Unfortunately, that wrong direction made our 15 minute bus ride turn into an hour and a half!! So, that made us really late for curfew. When we got back, we knew we'd be in trouble, but figured we'd be able to explain our situation. It turns out that Italian RA's are much worse then those in the states.
On the bus...and YES, Joe is silly!
That's Chelsea, Joe, and me of course! We got yelled at AS SOON AS WE WALKED IN THE DOOR. And there wasn't really an opportunity to explain our situation. We were then sent to bed, and I felt like we were being treated like 4 year olds. After getting upstairs, Rachel and I vented to our other roommate, and then I decided that I was gonna go talk to Professor Pate (the professor from the states). Well, our RA insisted on talking to us again WITH the professor. And she really didn't even understand us. It was rather frustrating. I think she eventually realized, after talking with Professor Pate, that she had been way too harsh, because she came to appologize to me later when I was online. But man, what a night. Then I went to bed with an awful migrane!!! Woke up this morning with a headache still, and decided to cancel my plans to go to Pisa. I figured, ah, I'll just go to Sienna tomorrow. So, that's the plan! I'm hoping to see St. Catherine of Sienna's head and finger! The group that went to pisa today said that it was a quick and cheap trip though, so maybe I'll go some other
weekend? Today was a lazy Friday. I just slept in, updated pictures on here and on facebook, wrote in my journal, and then read. I think I'll have to do some more reading for our history class, but that can wait until tomorrow's train ride. Oh, and random fact...I guess there are SOME really inexpensive flights here because some of the girls bought tickets to Malta for under $4 round trip!! Haha isn't that amazing!?!? Now I need to research what all there is to see in Sienna! Hope all is well in the states!! 😊
