Some of us needed to sit down after the long climb.
Naomi counted every step. Guidebooks say there are 463 steps but she counted 461 on the way up and 406 on the way down (the way up and the way down are different). On the way up, it was very nice to hear her reach “200” and think that we were almost halfway there. Fortunately, for Dean and I, there were parts of the climb that are flat and allow you to catch your breath. At the top, we could see the entire city (the whole point of the climb) and easily spotted our apartment. We can see the Duomo from our apartment window, so naturally, we could see our apartment window from the Duomo. We also noticed how far apart the various landmarks really are. This explained why we are so tired from walking everyday. The walk down the Duomo was easier, but still hard on the old knees and hips. We went for gelatto afterward and it was extra delicious!
