Day 22 Salerno to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast We took a train from Salerno to Pompeii today...I slept in, so we left at 9:00 instead of 8:00....So we got to Pompeii around 10:00. The train we took wasn't in the guide, and turned out to be a great trip...it ran on a different line than the train from Napoli, surprisingly...and the views were great. We've been traveling for about 7 hours now....

We can cook here...we have free wifi...it is cheap for Italy...but who would have ever thought that $90/night was cheap in a hostel!!!!!

Many famous Greek playwrights had their plays performed here...

The echoes are amazing....wish we'd brought a flashlight....tjhis is in the quarry where the rock for the theater and structures was taken.

While the Greek theater was used for plays, this was used for more bloody amusements....

The Duomo in Siracusa has the Greek temple of Diana built into it....massive columns!

Thanks for sharing your travels with us. You have certainly covered a lot of ground. It will be a trip you will always remember. I am sharing your blog with a buddy teacher who has cancer.
