Beautiful Riomaggiore Day 17 : Sunday 22 September 2019 : Riomaggiore and Manarola The rain has come. More like drizzle but we’re taking the train to Riomaggiore (€16 OW). Sensational and very hilly. Strangely quiet. Not many places open on the main street, (not sure if it’s because it’s Sunday or the rain) but morning tea is great, calamari! Riomaggiore is everything that you see in the photos. The photos of the Cinque Terre are mostly of Riomaggiore. Its easy to see. There’s some dark clouds hanging around. We walked around through to the little beach. On the way there were some big waves washing over the rocks, and the ferries stopped operating, must be expecting rough seas. Walked right around the bend to the little pebble beach (Riomaggiore beach). Hard to believe that we were swimming yesterday.
On the train to Manarola (€16), we’re still pretty dry. So delightful, one side is built up with cute Italian villas and the other full of olive groves and grape vines. Loved this place too. The weather was kind to us. Although the trail is closed along 2 legs from Riomaggiore all the way through to Corniglia, we could see people high up

Kirsten in Riomaggiore above Manarola. NB: It would appear that there was a trail between the 2 towns, just not the main trail, its higher up. Shame we didn’t realise.
Back to Vernazza and Graham and I found a little indoor wine bar and had a few before meeting the girls for dinner. Everything is wet now, no dry tables anywhere, last minute change of plans, we bought our dinner and wine and hot footed it back to our dry apartment to eat….a yummy night in.
Walked 8kms or 13300 steps and 72 floors. CC €48
Cash €80
