Soccer, Spain vs. Italy (final)
Greetings from Genoa 😊 This Blog Entry will be rather short since it was not a holiday but a business trip. As in a lot of other cities, you have the typical tourist spots, like Piazza de Ferrari (although Genoa is luckily not overcrowded with tourists), authentic streets, and a nice older part of the town. One of the "hearts" of the city is the harbor, which not only hosts very massive, huge (!) yachts, but where also the Aquarium and the Galeone are situated. The Galeone (size: 62m x 16m) is an artificial pirate ship that was part of the scenery of the movie "Pirates". It was finished in 1985 and 8,2 Mio. Dollars were spent to build it. Inside, it tries to impart the way the pirates lived (it even had an internal detention cell). Especially during the evening the waterfront was bustling: there was a European championship football game broadcasted on a big screen (Italy vs. Spain). The people were partying as long as it looked good for the Italian team, but as soon as the Spain team had the advantage a lot of emotions swashed over the Italian fan crowd. On another day, musicians gave a small

concert on the promenade. As we stood there and listened, a toddler boy from the audience, with curly blond hair, suddenly went "on-stage", and danced his heart out! Everyone clapped their hands. It was a very amazing atmosphere.

Coming back to the word "streets" - be aware of the fact that in the middle of the city the streets are quite narrow. Sometimes I was wondering how some brave guys could drive their cars through that streets. On the other hand, let's be honest, a lot of the cars already had some bumps - minor and major ones. We had to pass the maze of streets in the city center every day to get to the University of Genoa where the conference was located. On our way we could not resist trying out some of the smaller restaurants, and of course, original Italian ice cream. Some decks of the University of Genoa offered nice views on the harbor, the sea, and the towers and houses of the inner city. Moreover, the university part on Stradone di Sant'Agostino not only offered gorgeous views on the city but also was magnificent itself. No surprise that the faculty of architecture was placed

here (btw: did you know that you can sign up for a Master's program in Naval and Yacht design there?). Other, architecturally interesting buildings surrounded the university: the Chiesa de San Salvadore (church), the Museo Di S. Agostino, and the Chiesa Cattolica Parrocchiale N.S. Assunta Di Carignano (church).

To everyone coming to Genoa I can recommend the boat trip to San Fruttuoso, which is a small bay that can only be reached by boat (or by foot). The water has a crystal clear, light blueish color and is made for swimming. If you like, you can do some climbing, too, since right behind the bay the "mountains" start. This part belongs to "Parco Naturale Regionale di Portofino". From the boat one can enjoy very nice views on Genoa and its surroundings.

Summing up the trip: I ate way too much pasta and pizza and enjoyed the special flair of the narrow streets in the city center!
