I wanted to take some photos this morning of the mountains but it had clouded over & there were a few spots of rain but it was still warm though.

The journey we planned for our last day in Italy wasn't that far really, about 3 hours which took us via Genoa. The number of tunnels & viaducts before, through & past Genoa was incredible. At one point I asked Cathy to count them on the map but the amount of daylight between each tunnel was too little to be able to do so! (Google tells me that there are 157 tunnels between Pisa & Ventimiglia near the French border & that's c.195 miles tops) One viaduct took us over an entire suburb of the city & some of the tunnels under the city were like the ones you see on TV at the Monaco grand prix. The views out to the sea were super from the height up the mountain side. I think the law must be that you can only use paints at the orange / yellow end of the spectrum & use terracotta tiles, because it seems like most of rural Italy is the same & very pretty...

I was thinking that this site was going to another coastal 'village' one but it is in the Natural Park in the foot hills to the mountains about 5 kms from the coast & is really good...& it has a swimming pool which was on the fresh side of warm. It didn't help in that was very windy today & cloudy which kept the temperatures down to about 23 * I guess but it was warm enough for Cathy to go in so it wasn't that bad. This is the first site where the showers are metered which is a bit rich as the site costs are on the high side

We decided to use their pizzeria / restaurant & what a pizza! They were about 16” across, too big for the large pizza plates & scrummy. We also shared a 'proper' ice cream (which tasted just like Bond's of Elswick Pamela) Considering that it's a small site & mainly chalets the restaurant was packed. We didn't notice their special...mussels, clams, prawns in garlic with a carafe of sangria – shame!

Tomorrow, a la belle France for our last 6 weeks or so....first stop, Embrun
