This hostel room is so great for sleeping in. There is no natural light, so its hard to tell when the sun has risen and the day begun. There is also an air conditioner. Which makes it nice and cool. When I did get up, I ate my provided breakfast, sweet croissant and a hot drink and then walked to Crypta Balbi. On the way I walked past Trojan's Column and the huge Victor Emmanuel Monument. I went to Crypta Balbi because it was part of my combination ticket. The museum is above the site of an old theatre which connected to a crypt. I found it really boring, looked like lots of piles of bricks. Then went to Campo de'Fiori. Didn't find the square very interesting or nice. Checked out the ruined Area Sacra Dell'Argentina. Which is the remains of four temples, it was only discovered in 1920. They are some of the oldest temples to be discovered in Rome. Went to Piazza Navona. The area was filled with artists selling their original paintings and people selling fake designer bags and sunglasses- theses guys left as soon as the police turned up. My ticket also included Palazzo Altemps.
02 Ruins
Area Sacra Dell'Argentina ruins in the middle of the city. Its an old palace full of sculpture and frescoes on the wall. Saw quite a few things here that I liked. Had lunch at a little take-away place, was charged extra because I sat at a table of course!
Walked towards the Capitoline Museums. On the way had an ice-cream, tasted great as always! Went into the ticket office to buy a ticket which included both museums and the sign said that it was valid for 7 days. Today I only had time to see one museum, so I asked the lady which museum was smaller as I only had time to see one. She told me that my ticket is good only for today, I was confused. I then asked her if she could change my ticket to make it valid for the next day only. No she wasn't happy with that idea, she was cranky!! I pointed again to the sign that said valid for seven days and she just spoke really fast in Italian, I was lost! Then she took the ticket, which was sitting on the bench and put my money down and said go then! How rude! She wasn't happy having to work during August
03 Quiet square
A quiet square near the Campo de Fiori. when the rest of the country were on holidays! I took my money and planned to return the next day when I had time to see both museums!
Instead I had a look at the Forum, which I could see from behind the museums. I then walked down the hill and came across the Temples of the Forum Boarium. They are two well preserved temples from the 2nd century. Across the piazza was the Arch of Janus. Near that was Santa Maria in Cosmedin, where there is the Bocca della Verita, the Mouth of Truth, tradition says that its jaws will snap shut when a liar puts their hand in the mouth. I don't lie, so I didn't bother putting my hand in its mouth!
Walked halfway across one of the many bridges that cross the river and saw the remains of the Ponte Rotto (broken bridge) and it is quite broken, more than half the bridge is missing! Then walked up hill again to meet Miriam. We went for a walk to Villa Borghese, which is quite a while away. She knew a few short cuts, which involved many escalators. We walked through the park and came to the museum. We
04 Entrance
Entrance to a church, very welcoming! came here because I wanted book a ticket for the museum. The next available day was Tuseday, which was perfect for me. We walked down Via Veneto. Miriam caught the Metro home and I walked back to the hostel.
