COLOSSEUM
Our skip the line and tour was fantastic! Into Roma Saturday midday, we have a lovely modern apartment in Lazio! it is a beautiful area, very green and lots of trees, very close to restaurants, supermarkets etc but in a very local area which we love! We have a the top floor penthouse, 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, lounge and dining area, huge terrace area but a bit too hot and humid for sitting out on the terrace! We are finding the weather a bit more humid that we expected but lovely and warm just the same. Found a great place for dinner on first night Bruno...then headed home for bed..bit exhausted after early rise and long drive. Sunday off to the Porta Portese Flea Market....Kaz shopped til she dropped....great experience....found a lunch spot near the Colosseum, t hen off to the Colosseum for our half day tour at 2.00p.m. Our tour guide was just fabulous, very passionate about the history of Rome. Had a great tour of the Colosseum, with skip the line tickets, totally worth it...no queuing at all! Then headed to the Forum and Palatine Hill.... fantastic tour, lots of information and an insight into ancient Rome, we loved walking all over these ancient sites! Reg
and Kaz met me in a bar later in the arvo as they pulled the pin early as very hot and lots of stairs and walking! Home in a cab by 6pm and then headed out to another fab restaurant Osteria Palmira, a real and mom and pop Italian restaurant...fabulous fresh, tasty food we all enjoyed! Found a little beer bar on the way home and we all enjoyed nice cold beer...as if we needed it but a very cute local bar! Monday visited St Peters Basilica, people stop you and want to sell you tickets because they say the line to get in is 1hr 45 mins, crooks! We got in the line and were in within 10 minutes. Then some went on the Hop on Hop Off bus for a couple of hours and then we all met near the Trevi Fountain for lunch at a pizzeria birreria - great lunch! Whilst some were on the bus John and I walked leisurely through streets and alleys and around every corner there is something different, old and amazing to see - thoroughly enjoyed our day out and all came home for a snooze before having a farwell dinner for
Craig, Janet, Kaz and Reg - what a wonderful time we have all had together, lots of fun, laughter, great food and wine! It will be a little bit quiet now without them! It is not often you can get a big group that all get on so well, very lucky! Off to Florence for 4 nights.
