Today is the Feast of St. Peter & Paul and as a holiday, many shops around the area were closed…made it feel like a Sunday. However, everything touristy (minus the Vatican) were open so it didn’t affect us too much.
Today really only consisted of three things: Coliseum, Roman Forum & dinner. ALL = AMAZING. Pretty much don’t have words. Can’t even figure out how the Romans built such structures. Or how they’re still standing. Some of them anyway. The Forum was like a garden of marble. I again am without words. Sorry, Italica, as impressively awesome as you are, you barely hold a candle to the Roman Coliseum! I think I’ll post pictures…I took 450 today… And Faye wonders why they let thousands pass through daily. Hmmmm…Jake says, “It’s just that durable.” It is curious considering the Romans must have crawled up the stairs since they’re even big for ME…Jake says they’re made for giants. And they’re slanted too…and covered in marble. Recipe for disaster. We no longer walk around barefoot. We wear chanclas (flip flops) and sandals and you slip and slide all over!! The stones are so uneven you could easily twist your ankle just about every
step you take. Really had to watch your step! It’s still pretty cool though. I’m going to step into my future (UK next week) and break out my British lingo. It was so bloody hot out today. I love the heat and I was absolutely done in by it. My feet are still pulsating from all the walking! I can’t tell you how many bottles of water we drank today and I’m pretty sure we were never not thirsty! It’s crazy!! I carried my bag on my left shoulder today in an attempt to lessen my purse tan line…
Dinner was amazing. Best Italian meal in Italia yet. I started off downing a glass of water followed shortly thereafter by the most amazing and sweetest melon I may have possibly had in my life (maybe excluding the sweet melon we had while snorkeling in Costa Brava) and Bruschetta (sorry, we forgot to take a picture). It was so fresh and tasty and perfect. For dinner I had linguine with mushrooms. Wow. Oh I have never been so enchanted by my food. Faye’s tortellini was amazing and Erin’s gnocchi was pretty good too. I couldn’t finish it…SO much pasta! Of
course after a meal that amazing we HAD to have room for dessert. Jake and I had the dark chocolate and hazelnut gelato and Faye & Erin had a take on tiramisu. Gelato won hands down.
We’re just chilling tonight and resting up for our visit to the Vatican tomorrow. Cross your fingers we all get in smoothly! It’s one of my top destinations of this entire trip!
Sidenote: The bar across the street is blasting music we really don’t care about. At all. Just wanted to share.
Sidenote 2: They just played Ave Maria! (David Bisbal)…Spain moment!
Sidenote 3: Photo total to date: 6,463!
