2nd day
I realized something today….I want to marry an Italian. You cannot tell how old they are and there are all tall dark and handsome. We started today with a language class which was difficult but informative. We learned greetings and how to ask how are you and how to answer, days, and months. A couple of girls and myself decided to just explore Rome for a couple hours so we went back to Fontana di Trevi and got a quick lunch. I just got a mozzarella and tomato sandwich (go figure). Everything is actually a lot cheaper than I thought it would be, a huge bottle of water is just ,80 but that could just be the area. Then we just walked…for a long time. We got a little lost but eventually found our way back to the hotel. I am still in love with Rome, but it’s a little too busy for me. It’s hard to just take in all there is to see and to realize how old the city is because everyone is in such a hurry. I tried speaking what little Italian I knew today and I felt completely stupid. I feel like
I’m saying words wrong or not even saying what I mean to say. Oh well…a couple girls are talking about planning a trip to Germany for Oktoberfest, hoping to get in on that but don’t want to plan it until we at least get to Florence.
The Colosseum…
Was AMAZING! It’s one of those places that you hear about throughout your life and just pass it by, but actually seeing it is incredible and hard to believe that it has been there for thousands and thousands of years. Parts of it are gone but the majority is still remaining which gives a little insight in to how Romans built their structures. We went on a tour of every level, the spectator, where the emperor sat, and the backstage area. I learned that arena means sand in Latin because the main area was covered in sand to absorb the animal/person’s blood (crazy right?). I didn’t think I’d find these kinds of things interesting but I guess you don’t know until you’re actually there. We visited the Forum next and I was a little confused on what it actually is. I’ll have to google that later. It was hot…again. I
don’t think it’s been below 90 since we got here, I’ve sweat through every single shirt, pretty exciting. We learned how to turn the a/c on in the room so this is a good thing. We ate dinner at the same place we did last night and again I ate way too much (I keep forgetting you get pasta AND a main dish), but got my white wine ☺. Tonight is an early night because we have to get up extremely early if we want to visit Pompeii and see the Mediterranean Sea and the Amalfie Coast.
P.S. - Haven’t been able to get these up on the internet, haven’t really had time to pay for it and actually use it so this is why these are all going up the same day. And my mac is about to die and I forgot an adapter so I might not be able to write about Pompeii and the Vatican until Florence where I can hopefully find an adaptor somehow or else my mac will just be really lonely in my closet all semester. Ciao!
