Trajan's Forum

Trajan commemorated his victory over the Dacians by building a forum that would surpass all other fora in splendor and scale. The architect Apollodorus of Damascus designed this forum. Much of the Quirinal hill (61 million cubic meters) was cut away to make room for Trajan's Forum.

One interesting thing that I experienced in Rome was the way the Romans cross the street. If you stand on the side of the street waiting for a car to stop and let you pass you will never actually cross to the other side. Romans wait for a small break in traffic and then just walk, the thing is the cars don't slow down. So you end up walking across the street with cars coming straight at you at incredible speed. Following your impulses you begin to run to quickly get to the other side (to avoid being run over), it makes sense right? No! Do not speed up when you are walking across the street and cars are coming at you. The cars and motorcycles will stop for you, but the only stop right at the last minute. The romans are insulted if you run across because the cars are coming. They take it as an indication that you don't trust them.

Largo di Torre Argentina is a square area in Rome that has four Rupublican roman temples and also the remains of Pompey's theater. It is in the Campus Martius.

I spent quite a lot of time taking pictures here, the Cat Sanctuary (a safe zone for homeless cats). This is one of many centers for cats in Rome.
