Dublin
I traveled to the beautiful country of Ireland for our long weekend break. It was sooo much fun! We began our journey in Pisa again to see the Tower since the guys I went with hadn’t seen it yet and we were flying out of Pisa anyway. We hopped on a plane to Dublin, Ireland through ryanair and arrived in Dublin late on Wednesday night. We took a nice bus to the city center at O Connelly street and walked to our hostel, Abraham House. We dropped off our bags and then went exploring through the city. We passed through Trinity College and walked down random cobblestone streets getting lost in the historic city. We saw old buildings and bars and finally had a Guiness beer at some pub. I went to bed after this and then got up for breakfast at the hostel ready for another day to explore Dublin. We went to the train station shortly after to find times for a train to Galway, a town on the western coast of the country. It started pouring rain at this point so we went to get some Starbucks yum! Dublin is an awesome city right on the eastern
The Burren
A tomb that is older than the pyramids coast of Ireland full of churches, cathedrals, and pubs. We saw the Dublin Castle and walked around a big garden. It was fall during this time and I loved walking with all the leaves and feeling the breeze from the ocean! The Irish are so friendly and nice and there is a pub on almost every corner! I love Ireland!
We finally took a tram to the main train station where we were departing from—which was close to the Guiness storehouse! We walked over to the entrance, stopping to get some kebabs on the way then went to the museum. It was seriously the coolest museum I’ve ever been in. It cost only 9 euro to get it and was totally worth it. They had so many taste rooms to try the Guiness and such cool things to see. At the top of the museum we were able to drink our free cup of Guiness while overlooking an amazing view of Dublin. It was so cool. Finally we were getting out of the elevator about to leave when out of nowhere a group of Pepperdine students from Heidelberg come up the escalator and I got to see my very good
friend Marqui from freshman year! It was so exciting! We only talked for about 5 minutes then had to leave because they went to see the museum. The boys ran to see a cathedral while I walked back to the train station to wait for them.
Galway
We got on our train to Galway where we met a nice lady on the train who was from Galway and gave us a list of things to do! We played hearts after and got to Galway at about 7pm. When we arrived in Galway we went and found our hostel called Sleepzone which was really nice. We were able to get settled in and then go wander around the town. I really liked Galway—the town is cityish but is still kind of quaint as well. It’s full of young people and really cute! We walked down near the river and had a good night in Galway. The next morning we decided on taking a guided tour of the country. This was really exciting for me since everywhere I had traveled to was mostly in the city and I had not gotten a real chance to explore the country part of well a country. It was only 20 euro and we really wanted to see the Irish countryside. This was a lot of fun and a good choice! We saw old, old churches, Stone Age tombs that were older than the pyramids and my favorite by far, the Cliffs of Moher. These were absolutely amazing and breathtaking. We walked along the edge taking pictures and almost got blown away from the 70 mph winds! This is the part of Ireland that I wanted to see most! We arrived back from our little day trip at around 6pm and checked bus times for the next day. After this we went to the grocery store to get food and had dinner at the hostel. I played pool with my friend Chase then the boys left to explore while I stayed at the hostel to check online, journal, and take a shower.
Cork
The next day we took a 4 hour bus to Cork which is a city on the southern coast of the country. I loved Cork! It has some great shopping and the city was all decorated for Christmas! We went into this food market and then I split up with the guys to go shopping while they went exploring. Cork has some great shopping and it’s easy to spend a lot of money here haha. After Cork we woke up Sunday morning, went to church then took a bus back to Dublin where we walked around the city some more and then took a bus to the airport to fly back to Florence! It was a really good weekend and I’m so happy to have seen Ireland.
