ooohh swayze... Deedle-ee-dee in Dublin -
Having a great time in Ireland...Josh and i never cease to be amazed at all the rich history all across the UK...
A few days ago we left good ol' land of the Scots, but not before trying some Haggis, Neeps and Tatties...sheep innerds, boiled in sheep stomach, with turnips and mashed tatters. hmm...at least we can say we had it. We had a quick flight over to Ireland and found our lovely little b & b without too much trouble...love the Irish hospitality. Our host's husband greeted us smelling of a wee bit o' Guiness talking of his sailin' on the 'roof' seas (i think that meant rough seas) and called us both Fella's. hmmm...very very nice though.
The next day we were out nice and early to see the Dublin sights...started of seeing the Book of Kells in the Old Trinity College Library. At first we didn't really have a grip on what we were actually going to see (our giude book just said to go) but once there we realized that it is a book written on calf skin from 700ish AD containing the 4 Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and
scotland
in edinburgh castle John. Describing it certainly doesn't do it justice but it is really amazing to actually see for ourselves that what we believe in was believed in by people here in Ireland over 1500 years ago!
After that wonderful experience we walked to Kilmainham Gaol (Jail), built and used since the early 1700s where we learned about the Irish Rebellion and Ireland's fight for independance back in 1916. The jail is where the leaders of the rebellion were executed for their role in it. It was quite something listening to our guide telling the details of the firing squad executions while staring at the wall where they were carried out. Just imagine standing with your hands tied behind your back, blindfolded with 16 men with guns pointed at you. WOW...it gave me chills. Finally we got to read letters from the men that were executed written to their mothers. wives and children...not letters of anger but letters of pride in dying for their country and forgiveness towards the men carrying out their executions. Incredible.
(and who better to write about our Guiness experience than my husband...)
thanks kat!
The guiness factory at st. james gate is massive! it occupies
scotland
pretty good lookin scots!! an area that seemed to equal 5 city blocks by 5 city blocks. I guess when you are pumping out 100,000 pints of guiness a day from that factory supplying the UK, Canada, and USA you need lots of room to swing your elbows!
Anyways, it was cool to see, however you dont get to see any of where the beer is actually made from the inside. just the buildings on the outside...whoopdy do! The building we took our tour in could hold 14 million pints of guiness. wow. 7 floors of arthur guiness halleluiahs and cheesey tourist things explaining how beer is made. whatdy whatdy yadda, wheres the flippin beer?! They do have a neat section on marketing. something for you to think of. did you know that the guiness book of world records was started in the 50's by the managing director of guiness? You do now. once we got to the top of the factory we got our lips on some of that good stout. I dont mind it actually and kat even drank nearly a full one to herself. Of course her prince charming helped her finish it off. I only think she drank it becuase
scotland
havin' a wee pint...aye... she was hungry, but what a big girl.
and that was guiness.
I read today that in amsterdam they have a heineken factory and there they give you 3 beers!! horray!! that means one for kat and 5 for joshy! funny that we leave for amsterdam tomorrow. and no, I will not be hittin any bongs but kat...shes crazy like that!
(and Josh gets kicked out of the drivers seat...)
Today we had a pretty chill day...we checked out the National Irish Museam which, quite honestly, was not as impressive for us as the Scottish and British museums, but we did get to see a cool exhibition on the bog people...well preserved people that were found in Irish bogs that date back pretty flippin' far...(no i can't remember the exact year). Just gonna cruise for the rest of the day and enjoy the sunshine...it rained like cats and dogs yesterday!
(from the passenger seat...)
just so everyone knows...the uk and especially ireland stinks! literally. If its not some person with gnarly BO or someone smoking an unflitered cigarette and blowing it right in your face or the pile of crap on the corner, or the garbage piled
ireland
today...there are leprachauns in ireland. No lucky charms though. on the side of the road, or the guiness factory fermenting thier beer, or sulfur from the canals and ponds, or some dude puking in an alley outside a pub, and you know its a beer puke becuase its smooth and no food to gag on...gross but i think you get the picture, so at your computer take a big whif of clean air, and really treasure it! You have no idea! I think im becoming a germ a phobe! old and stinky. I guess they go hand in hand.
(Drivers seat...)
