Dana and I on the train
Our early morning train ride to the airport to leave for Ireland, March 1st. You can tell by our very tired eyes. Hey Everyone,
How are you all doing? I hope all is well at home. I heard it snowed? That's crazy, all I've seen is rain. Kinda sucks, we've had two nice days if you want to call them that. Apparently that's what it does in Scotland and Ireland. Who Knew? The weather is quite odd out here, it'll rain all day and then out of nowhere it turns sunny with a couple of rainbows. I've learn't not to get too excited cause it usually is still raining when the suns out.
I arrived in Dublin yesterday morning. My last two days in Glasgow were pretty laid back. We didn't actually do anything or leave the house for that matter. Yesterday I had to catch a 10:30am flight to Ireland which meant up at 5:30am, then on the train from 6:30 till 8:30am. It was an early morning, it least I was able to have a cat nap on the plane. I arrived in Dublin at 11:00am, with the sun shining. It was nice to finally see some sun. It was weird only being on a plane for 45mins. The view from the plane as we landed was gorgeous, so
Ireland from the plane
This is Ireland just as we were landing in the plane. Thankgoodness there was sun for a change. hopefully the photos will turn out. Dana and Paige basically walked through customs, I thought I would get through before them since the non EU line was smaller. Not my luck, it seemed they had a lot more questions to ask us then just flipping them our passports. The guy was letting the Canadian citizens through a lot faster with less hassle than the other citizens. We hoped on a double decker bus outside the airport and got dropped off right in front of the hostel. We just chose a hostel that sounded the best in the guide book. We planned on getting a room for just the three of us however it was 33 Euros per person each night. Not what we expected. So we are in a dorm with 12 beds which are full. We were all a little disoriented with everything. I've never slept in a dorm with a bunch of girls before. Then on top of that we had no clue where we were or what to do. We happened to buy a all day bus pass so we dropped our stuff off and just got on the bus. We decided we would get off when
Double Decker Bus Ride to Dublin
This was my 1st Double Decker bus ride. I had to sit on the top, right at the front to make sure I got the full affect. we liked something we saw. We ended up at the Trinity University. A safe place to ask questions. Someone told us how to get to the tourist office. We walked to the office and the streets are pretty neat. They have a peoples street too. Lots of cobblestone roads. We stopped at O'Shea's restaurant for lunch since the desk people at the hostel told us it was cheap and good. And it was. When we were looking around the hostel we found a brochure on a pub crawl. So we got ready and headed to the university where it started. It started out pretty slow, but it was cool to see different pubs. The 1st pub was Long Stone and we had a pint there. The 2nd pub was called Odoulle's, it was a little dingy. Not our favorite. The 3rd pub, Cassidies, was pretty good especially since everyone was starting to loosen up. We were introducing ourselves to everyone. We were the only Canadians, the rest were from England, Australia, America, and on from Africa. They gave us a shot there that was a banana liquor. From there we went to Porter House and it was getting late so
Liffey River, Dublin
This is the river that runs through Dublin and has a street on either side of it with little bridges going across so you can get from one side to the other. it was pretty packed. We danced a lot and had a lot of fun. The last and final stop was Major Tom's Nite Club. We were all feeling pretty good and just danced. The thing that sucked was that when we decided to leave we had no clue where we were. We actually ended up being quite aways from the hostel. There were so many people on the streets and some were carrying glasses they took from the last pub they were in. Pretty Funny. We hopped on a bus that would of taken us right to the hostel however we missed the stop. So we had to walk back. My feet and legs hurt pretty bad from all the walking and the three stair cases in the hostel. I'm definitely getting my exercise. Overall it was a great night.
Today we got up early for our continental breakfast that consisted of cereal and toast with jam. We bought a ticket for a hop on hop off bus tour. Unfortunately it wasn't sunny like yesterday so we couldn't sit on the tope of the bus. The bus stopped at a whole bunch of things to see and do. While
O'Shea's Merchant
This was the first place we ate at and the service was so bad however the food was quite good so that made up for it. we were on the bus the driver talked about everything we drove by and gave us some history. Our first stop was at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. We never went into the museum just walked through the corridor to the Kilmainham Goal. We took a guided tour through the jail. It was really cool and kinda creepy all in one. I couldn't believe there was children held there too. It was really cold. I got some really neat pictures and learn't a little. Since it was so cold and wet we decided to take the bus back to the hostel to dress a little warmer and have lunch. When we got back on the bus we went to St.Patrick's Cathedral. It was the most beautiful church I have ever seen. The stained glass windows were amazing and all the architecture. From there we stopped quickly at the Guinness storehouse since we were running out of time. We had a plan to take the bus all the way around to St.Stephens Green Shopping center to get some groceries for dinner. Our plan failed! The tour buses stopped running at 5pm so we had to get off and walk. By
Four Courts Hostel Room
This was my first hostel experience. This room was on the thrid floor of a very old building that swayed when the buses went by. It was 12 girls to a room with 2 showers and 1 toilet. Fun ah? the time we got to the shopping center it was doing the sunny but raining thing. Really odd. We got back to the hostel soaking wet and really cold. Showering in a hostel is quite the experience, not my best one. I bought flip flops for showering and you can't control the water either. So what you get is what you get. Luckily mine was hot. This hostel thing is quite the experience all in all. I haven't decided yet if I like it or not. A bonus is all the people we've met are really nice and friendly!
Tomorrow we leave to go to Bundoran to stay with our cousins. It should be good to have a proper shower and a nice bed. The bus ride is 4 hours so hopefully it'll go by fast. I'm sorry some of you didn't get the pictures I sent. I'm working on a travel blog, there's not much on there right now but you can take a look if you want. The address is www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Smartie. My last email is on there too and some pictures. I don't know when I'll be able to get back on the internet but as soon
