Our excursion was supposed to leave at 1:30 and last for 6 hours but we wanted to go earlier so we went down at 7:30 to try to go standby. We made it!!! We got down to the tender and wow, it was rough, but we got on. The ride to Dun Laoghaire was rough but not horrible. Once in Dun Laoghaire, we boarded the bus, but walking to the bus in the rain and wind was miserable. The bus ride into Dublin was about 30 minutes. We drove around a bit before stopping near Trinity College for a break for folks to shop or get a coffee. No one wanted to go out in the miserable weather. We headed upstairs to the coffee shop for a scone and diet coke. I looked at Facebook and saw that someone had posted from the ship. The post stated that one of the tenders was boarding (probably the one right after ours) and that the boat was going up and down 3-4 feet, then the lines to the tender snapped and it pulled away. They got it back and got everyone off. All the rest of the excursions for the day were cancelled.

street with colorful doors Wow.
After a while we went downstairs and browsed the shop but didn’t see anything that was worth purchasing. The bus finally got back and that’s when we got the bad news. We would finish most of our tour but then head back to the port and await further instructions. We drove around Dublin and saw some sights through the rain covered windows, then we stopped at St Patrick’s cathedral for a tour. After the tour finished the bus headed to the port. Once there, they told the bus driver to take us to the Royal Marine Hotel to await further information. The hotel sat us in a banquet area and fed us soup and a scone. Later the bar was opened and we could get drinks. Viking picked up the tab. We got to the hotel at 1:30 and didn’t leave until close to 6. Susan and I were on the first tender back. Oh, my it was a slow, very rough ride back. The tender was rocking side to side with waves crashing over the bow. The tender made it to the ship but took between 10-15 minutes to finally be able to get the
lines to steady it so that we could get off. There were 4 people there helping each person off. The 2 boats would separate vertically by feet and you went across when it was somewhat even. There were rescue boats circling in case someone went overboard. We finally got our turn and got safely back on board. We headed to the room to change quickly, take a bit of meds and then head to dinner. Some of the folks around us told us how bad the waves were during the afternoon. They said the sea now (which was rough) looked so much calmer than earlier. I’m glad Viking held us in town until things settled down.
Back in our room we open the curtains and wat do we see the sun and the city. WHY COULDN”T IT HAVE BEEN LIKE THIS EARLIER??? So, was our luck good or bad?
