Plaza de España
I don't get why pans do this. Been without Internet except briefly for the last couple of days.
Sevilla
Seeing as it was our last day & we hadn't yet checked off everything on our list, we hopped to it. Ok, Katie hopped to it. I could still have slept all day. We began with a stop at the bus pickup to figure out when to catch one to the airport on our way over to Plaza de España. It's sooo pretty. The fountain still wasn't running and there were tables blocked off for some sort of function, but it was still gorgeous!
Next up ir de compras...shopping. Well, sort of... We window shopped at Encuentre the night before & went in to grab what we wanted. Ran into Blanco & up 3 or 4 flights & back down again & booked it to the pasteleria we enjoyed so much last time. Bought cookies & nougat & fresh water...then we booked it to Plaza Alfalfa. We ate Italian here a few years ago, had the best helado (it was closed this time around) & really enjoyed the ambiance. We didn't have time to delay...onward!
Silver shop...it's actually a shop of different artisans. We loved it last time
and every bit as much this time. I found silver earrings & a ceramic square for my kitchen. So pretty! I think they are genuinely grateful for the people who visit vs. just going to a souvenir shop.
Next we attempted to find the papelería, but found out it was closed & ate helado instead. Límon & Nougat. Mmmmmm. Sooooo gooooood. More appropriate size this time although still pricey. We shopped a little but along the streets -never had a chance to spend much time in that section- before heading out of the city center.
Corte Inglés...where my sunglasses disappeared. There's a reason why I bought $5 sunglasses for this trip. I tried to locate them to no avail. Oh well. That's why I bought a hat anyway for the sun! Corte is like a Macy's store w/ a grocery store I guess you could say. At least half a dozen levels. Did a bit of shopping for last min favorite foods & gifts for our hosts.
Leaving Sevilla...
Packed everything up & did a great job to boot! I'm proud! We only had 1 xtra bag & that was mostly just food! Juncture btwn backpacker to traveller. 😉 We
arrived to catch our bus at 6pm. Arrived at the airport before 7. Played ridiculous games of back & forth w/ the counters after waiting in line forever. Despite asking about stamping my ticket, it wasn't done and after an hr & a half flight, I went running around the airport to get that straightened out. No trip is complete without an adventure at every point, right?
Arrived soooo late. Literally walked in B&B, apologized for being late, delighted our host w/ paying in cash, went to bed in my clothes, got up 5 hrs later & walked downstairs to catch our ride to the airport. Thanked our great host for everything and went on our merry way...so we thought. We couldn't check in on mobil because we couldn't select any of the fields & no time to charge my tablet. Kiosk wasn't working for payment of xtra baggage and stood in customer service line for ~1.5 hrs (btw this is Stansted). Nearly missed our check in. Because we couldn't do it online, we had to pay 70 euros (~$100) EACH in addition to $50 bag check fee. We had to book it to security & then to our gate,
which was already boarding. RyanAir on time? Lies. (Flight in). RyanAir the cheap airline? More lies. We arrived ok in Cork and actually arrived along w/ students staying at the same residence & ride together. Had a lovely day being shown around the city by car & took to it by foot. I'm relaxing after dinner. I can't believe it's 930pm & so light out.
Tomorrow...
* write Limericks
* visit Blarney & Blarney Castle
* find wool shop
* eat traditional dinner
* go to city center after dinner
