Wed May 27 Day ???

Glacier Life

The trip up to the glacier was beautiful and memorable. Me and Hendrick took the car, “Gary” which is a really old army ambulance from the 70’s. There was a hatch inside the cabin to see the engine, it could not go faster than 70km/hr (45km/hr up hills) and it plowed through all the snow here on the glacier. There were 7 trucks traveling up in our convoy carrying snowmobiles, our caravan/house, the toilets, two dog trailers, and tons of other gear. In total the trip took us 8 hours with many stops. We went through a 6km tunnel that runs under the ocean. When we got to the glacier, we sat in out vehicles for about 4 hours waiting for something to happen but nothing did. Siggi said that the cabin we were aiming to go to was snowed in so we set up camp on the side of the road for the night. We took the dogs out of their boxes to do their business, set up the caravan and then went to sleep. Oh ya, while we were waiting, one of the cars caught fire but we were

able to put it out before any serious damage happened. The next day was moving day part 2. We took the dogs out at 8am, ate, and then slept. This happened again at noon, and then at 4pm, Siggi told us that he found us a place with enough snow that we could run tours. We packed up everything we unpacked the night before and started to move. There were only 3 drivers this time because the other 4 had gone home, they were only contracted for that one day. After many, many trips back and forth, we got all the cars to the new spot, put the dogs on chains, got the sleds ready, and had enough time to do a practice tour to see the new track at 10:15pm. The guys got back from the tour at around midnight so we all went to bed around 12:30 but it wasn’t any darker than it was 5pm. It’s been cloudy with some rain the whole time we’ve been up here so I haven’t seen the view that Siggi has been raving about. Today we have 3 tours, with 8 people on each tour. Still haven’t showered in 8 days,

This is Gary
and won’t be able to until at least June 1st. My birthday is coming up so I expect(or not???) a surprise party from all of y’all reading this. The address is Some Glacier In Iceland, West Iceland, Iceland, PO box “Does not exist”. About an hour before the glacier, Siggi bought us all lunch and it was this thing called a glacier burger which he said was the biggest burger you can find anywhere. Obviously he’s never been to America but I digress, it was a really big burger. The kitchen could only make one at a time because of some reason I can’t remember. We’re settled down at least until Saturday and then we’ll try to move up to the cabin again. I doubt we’ll make it because it snowed even more last night. Glacier life is simple, cold, wet, filled with dog hair, and cozy. I finally know all the dog’s names!

Update: Afternoon.

Caesar and Aquillies got in a fight, I was trying to break them up but Caesar bit my hand and messed up my right thumb really badly. Might need stitches but not too sure yet. Otherwise it’s been a good
