Taking a break in the park...Taking a break in the park...Taking a break in the park...

to think...take bad photos of myself...
Hi all,

My last day in Budapest was just relaxing with nothing exciting that went on. I was going to go a traditional Turkish bath and try that out, but when I got to the building, I was more in the mood to explore the city, so I did just that. I ended up walking the length of the Danube River, which is getting higher every day. At one point this thing is going to recede and reveal the entire 4 lane street and pedestrian walkway to the world, but right now, those are lost in a sea of water. It started to rain in the city today, so after satisfying my urge to explore with no new discoveries, I headed back to the hostel and ended up going out for dinner with a few other people, a nice couple from Ireland/Scotland, and an American living in Ireland. Dinner is always interesting in this city, since the servers will always go up to you speaking full Hungarian, to which we say...'food menu', and when we still get the blank stares, we resort to 'food'. That one seems to work. Anyway, had a lovely dinner, then went off to see Victor
Look honey, they serve Holsten here, let's eat here...Look honey, they serve Holsten here, let's eat here...Look honey, they serve Holsten here, let's eat here...

One example of how high the Danube River is flooded. This ramp would lead to a street below.
the bartender at his bar, which was a really nice upscale but relaxed bar that we just sat back and enjoyed the very inexpensive drinks. We ended up trying to go to this Salsa bar that the American had heard of, but when we got there, they were mopping the floor, but we still had the guy try and convince us to stay...yeah...no thanks. Basically just walked home after that and chatted at the hostel with the remaining group that were up.

I'm not looking forward to leaving, but I guess it must be done. Off to London!!!

More soon,

Cheers,

Neil

The sign is to indicate where tourists can see interesting parts of the flooding.

a section of it anyway....it's quite large to get in a whole photo, then you lose the scale...
